Any Ideas?

Post by AntiV6 »

Well, I am a complete retard, and somehow my digital camera ended up in a large soda for a few minutes.

Right when I noticed the problem I pulled the camera out, took out the batteries and SD card and shook as much of the drink out. I also let it sit on top of the refrigerator for 10+ hours.

Nothing seems to be working, the camera wont power on with a new set of batteries, and my SD card wont work in my sisters digital camera.

So does anybody have any ideas about what I can do to at least salvage the SD card?

Don't know about the SD card but the camera may be saved yet! (maybe not but its worth a shot)
Take the whole thing apart and throughly clean all the ICBs in the thing with %90 rubbing acohol (a higher pertage can be use but I wouldn't risk lower). after everything is spotless, leave it apart and let it airdry overnight. Put it back together, pray the soda didn't fry anything, and try turning it on. It may or may not work...BTW if you ever drop electronics in any type of liquid, DO NOT try to turn it back on until it has been completely cleaned and dryed and of course, taking apart your camera will usaully void the warranty but then again, so will getting it wet...

Good Luck saving your stuff :drinkers:

I'll try the rubbing alcohol.

I was hoping to save the SD card more than the camera to be honest. I just got back from the best vacation ever, and was already shopping for a new camera anyways, I was planning on giving my mom the old one.

Can you guys recommend a good thin camera with a big screen for ~$200?

I was looking at these:

Thanks for the help guys!

As far as I knew, the only way to damage a card from liquid is if it got short circuited from the camera. So if your camera does not work after the cleaning, you might be screwed.

OK, I have to ask - how the hell could your camera get in a large soda? Another reason I do not recommend or like those tiny cameras :?

Get yourself a nice 12X zoom camera and you will be happy. 5mp or more and you will be VERY happy. I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 and I dont even use my SLR anymore!
Remember, I am opinionated and nothing I say or do reflects on anyone or anything else but me :finga:

I was hoping the card was did not get short circuited in the camera.

I was coming home from vacation and decided to take everything out of my pockets so I could take a nap as my dad drove home. I dropped everything in one of the pouches behind the front seats and I didn't know my sister left a Whataburger cup in the pouch. :(

Update:

I was able to get some of the pics from the internal memory onto my computer but the screen + Memory card are still screwed.

@The Silica gel comment, I don't buy that many pairs of shoes/computer cases.

go to a shoe store and ask to try on a ton of shoes, then just nab all of the silica gel inserts
