I think I'll wait for the bugs to be ironed out of this beta before I throw it at my X2. Life is a little kooky right now to have to mess around with software.

Will have a new E6400 and a gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard this week, whenever newegg sends it!!!

now I will be able to overclock, hopefully, and really get some numbers crunching!!

Will post times when I get it.

More tweaking with the Quad core :finga:

P2652 6:40/percent

P2610 6:11/percent

Much happier now that I'm closer to 50% of times the dual cores are doing.
Still at ~3.5GHz but now on Intel XBX2 with ram at 943MHz 4-4-4-12.

Well past couple days I've really started getting mad at Win SMP client. Had one WU stop at 58% saying it couldn't finish the WU and is sending it back and getting a new one....last night had another WU stop at 98% for the same reason.....

yeah that seems to be the overwhelming feeling, that's why most of us that continue to fold SMP, are going to or back to Linux

Havent had a problem in the world with the windows smp...maybe i am wierd.

Have it install on the Intel MB and on this Gigabyte, and no errors as of yet!!

Wish there was a true way to measure the speed for folding rather than just the times for a core or average ppd.

what flavor of .NET do I need to install? I am trying to get my new machine up and folding, but I saw like 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 .NETs.

you must have 2.0 on your system, you can have 3.0 also but 2.0 must be present i believe.

Woot:
2.2GHz Dual Core
TPF: 2 Days
TPWU: 82 Days 13 Hours
Did I set something up wrong?? I have yet to fold even a frame! Or is it just that my CPU sucks?

That seems excessively long. What type of dual core is it? (Core2, AthlonX2 etc.)

Is there an option to set how much CPU is used by the folding SMP? It isn't set ridiculously low is it?

Also check your task manager to make sure that there aren't any rouge programs using all your CPU (should be at 50% or more CPU utilisation)

Damn, I keep having wu's take like 3 days to do on this and I can't get them to transmit to server. the last one timed out and now they won't accept it so I don't know if I fixed the transmitting part yet till I wait another day or two for a wu to finish. I also hate seeing kens' 21 min wu while mine take forever. granted I think I have it set to accept really large ones.

remember his is an overclocked C2D, not an X2. Post over at the FAH Forums, post your log, and I'm sure they'll credit the WUs for you.

The time I quoted above (23mins 27sec) was with my X2 @ 2.6GHz. I dont use the M$ SMP client anymore.
Im just about to start my first Linux SMP WU on the new rig ;)

SMP client has deadlines. If your computer is to slow the program may not give you any points or WU. Make sure that your computer is running at it's best before you try SMP client. One other thing is to be patient.

I've noticed the new M$ SMP Beta tends to stop crunching WU's easilly. It tends to hang on my system if I disable or unplug a USB device or open WinTV. ((I've tested this @ stock settings too).

Anyhow, I also noticed when I restart it, it says something like "program restarted over eight times, disabling SSE loops"
Then it runs alot slower.
I see kenc51 stated that the SMP client is a bit touchy. I found out yesterday that the SMP client shuts down when I disconnect my network cable!
I had it disconnected for several hours before I realized it was down :(
and as Ken stated it is now running slow after the restart. I hope it completes the WU in time.

How do you "Forceasm" ?
I'm a nOOb to SMP :(

edit your shortcut. In the Target part it should read

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home Windows SMP Client V1.01\fah.exe" -verbosity 9 -advmethods -forceasm

I did that and it has created another problem, in between frames it posts "Timered Checkpoint Triggered"
It does this every 15 mins, 4 times then writes the files. Massive slow down!
I'm going to remove the additional command and reboot.
