E6600 or wait for Q6600

Now wondering if i should wait July 22nd and get Q6600 instead of E6600 with 44$ price difference. Is it

worth waiting then buy quad core for $44 price difference or just stick with core 2 duo?

Rumor has it that Intel will price its Core 2 Quad Q6600 to below $300 and its Core 2 Duo E6750 to below $200. Intel has not confirmed any such pricing, but these kinds of media leaks have a tendency to be substantive.

Right now at newegg the E6700 is $318.00 according to Anandtech's leaks the E6750 will be just $183....

Something to think about heck the E6850 will be $266 and if they are right (which is likely) then these are killer prices.

Is not 8 cores better than 4? I say yes. If dollars matter to you, by all means go with the cheaper. If you want to try to keep up with teck, Then go with as many cores as possible. The price difference of a couple of hundred bucks? So what.
Bring on more cores! Fold on!

This is the latest pricing info I've seen, granted it's for 1000 unit tray CPU's, but in the past retail prices have been fairly close.

Trusted Execution Technology (TET or TXT), formerly known as LaGrande Technology is a key component of Intel's initiative of "safer computing" . Intel claims that it will be very useful, especially in the business world , as a way to defend against software-based attacks aimed at stealing sensitive information. Although commonly advertised by Intel as security technology, the Free Software Foundation claims that it can also be used to enable development of more advanced, tamper-resistant forms of DRM, and can be abused to achieve vendor lock-in.

It consists of a series of hardware enhancements, to allow for the creation of multiple separated execution environments, or partitions. One component is a relatively new chip residing on the motherboard, called the TPM (Trusted platform module), which allows for secure key generation and storage, and authenticated access to data encrypted by this key. Note however, that the private key stored in the TPM is generally not available to the owner of the machine, and never leaves the chip under normal operation. What are you going to do with it would be the key question to ask. Most of the time, my cores are sitting idle; very few games/apps actually use all 4 cores in my experience. x264.exe is a notible exception. It uses all 4 cores very efficiently. If you have an interest, see this thread over at doom9 I started. You can see MANY different CPUs/settings benchmarked encoding the same avisynth script to x264.

And beside that, it's already the 23/July and prices already went down, so if you having purchased one, now it's time to grab a nice Q6600.

Too bad I bought my E6600 for almost the same price ($235) , but that was 3 months ago...

I would personally go with the Q6600. Much more future proof for not that much more $$$. Plus 4 cores would be amazing in folding

I woudl avoid any current Intel quadcore due to the heat they generate. I would wait for the Penryn.
