Intel D845WN help, did it have a stroke?

Post by davehariri »

Hey guys, i'm new here, but not new to computers. I was given this computer from my dads office. It's a pretty good computer, intel 2 Ghz, 1GB ram, some ATi graphics card and a 40 gig HD and CD-ROM drive. the PSU is great but for some reason only some parts of this motherboard work. For starters nothing shows up on the screen when i start it up. secondly the PSU fan is fully functional but refuses to start up. The indicator lights won't turn on but the switch works fine. HD spins up, CD drive spins up. the processor is integrated into the board (blows) and i can't find a single burn anywhere. any tips?

NO Monitor will light up?? Is Intel D845WN MOTHERBO copping a squat? Video card okay, HD’s ok, monitor ok, memory bench tested sticks ok (2X256mg SDRAM PC133) already was in 2 of the 3 available slots, maybe big mistake?? That is when I first noticed that monitor had quit. Also has Intel P4 1.8g processor, 3 fans run okay, but again something that you said, no power indicator when I booted up, it was booting, but no "On" light lit up. Also, curiously, the CPU use indicator did not go to flickering as it usually did, it stayed brightly on as if the processor was running at 100% the whole time, it never quit, (never did that before), then my floppy power supply wired plug got reversed somewhere in the process and now I have the fatal green light staying on, on the floppy drive. Another tech thinks that may have caused a motherboard issue. We have tested every other component on the bench and the motherboard testing is limited to visual, nothing I can see burned. My personal tech fooled with motherboard jumpers-nothing. Reassembled, power on, cup fan ok, HD's spin, video card checks okay, disconnected A drive (floppy), by default, it should look for DVD+RW or HD for boot-nada! No usual beeping and peculiar noises from motherboard, which is the only thing I cannot bench, test or otherwise locate anyone for further assist. Can you or anyone provide me with any direction? I built the machine new at a trade show in 02 with XP Pro. She has been my absolute sweetheart until this symptom of not lighting the monitor. The monitor does get a quick signal to power up by virtue of the standby light briefly goes from yellow to green on the monitor for two seconds and back to retirement to the yellow glow. The original Intel D845HV or D845WN (written on the installation disk) is being diaagnosed as faulty due to the following symtoms: Flash Drives are instantly killedAdditional Considerations to keep in mind: 1.) Attempted addition of another stick of proper 256 RAM. 2.) The reversal of power supply to A floppy drive. 3.) Lost track of jumper position on mother board. 4.) Diagnostic tech messed with every jumper, ribbon wires, power feeds, and fan power sources and combinations, artic grease at CPU. Excluding the attempted addition of the stick of RAM; (noteworthy) who supplied and guaranteed was good and correct for my machine; same tech nervously moved around way to fast for me while sweating profusely. This tech has years of experience building high ended musical and video machines for those applications. The breadth of tech's knowledge is unknown. Staples surgeon's have since confirmed video good, HD's good, Room’s good, audio card good, A drive, floppy, still indicates green late on condition regardless of power supply position. There are no markings for proper attachment of power supply to A drive according to Staples Tech? Why does monitor not light with machine, I dunno? No Power On light, I dunno? No typical noises emitting from motherboard, chirps, etc, I dunno? All other AGP cards good=Yup! Staples opinion for 50 dollars is that it could be the mother board, which they cannot test any further; they suggest I replace board or buy new. I love my old machine. If anybody can make it right for me, I will do right by you. I will be waiting with crossed fingers to hear from anyone. Thank You, email [email protected] my private email, Rix
