A friend of a friend dropped his laptop off and said he's getting script errors after he installed IE7
So, Installed FireFox! Which of course works great!
I have a stupid question.
If I uninstall IE7 will IE6 still be there?

Re: IE7 Uninstall
Have all the nessacary patches that go with IE7 been installed?
IE6 won't be there straight away, but you can still get hold of it somewhere from Microsoft, as we rolled back my parents to 6 as my dad didn't like the new stupid icon placement.

To be honest I'm not sure. I've tried to run windows update and it wont get past the validation process.DMB2000uk wrote:Have all the nessacary patches that go with IE7 been installed?

The guy has 3 user accts. setup and I believe they did different updates under different users.

I searched MS last night for quite a while and could not find IE6. All I found where updates & patches for it. The only full download was IE7.
I am considering doing a system rollback. There are other problems I am finding, certain utilities error out when I try to run them and thats just the beginning!
The more I dig into this the more I think it needs a windows reload!

Re: IE7 Uninstall
Possibly ^_^
But there were quite a few problems that occurred when IE7 was first installed but I think the updates fixed that, strange that you can't get it to validate, as the installation of IE7 requires validation.
I'm not advocating wares here, but you could try looking up some workarounds to validation or indeed see if the official offline downloaded validator will give you a correct code.

Re: IE7 Uninstall
better question is which version of Windows. If its XP you need IE in order for Windows to work properly. Even if you try to uninstall its still there.

Re: IE7 Uninstall
It is XP on a Dell Laptop.
Something I noticed last night, it says IE is running without "AddOns" I dont get that. I read a little on it and it tells how to turn addons off but says just restart IE and Addons will be back on. Wierd thing I see, when you click on "Start" IE is listed on the left and it its listed like this "Internet Explorer(No Addons)"
The IE7 Update was done through automatic updates!
After that he started having problems with script errors, unknowingly he tried several different fixes to no avail.
One of those was RegCure, a Registry Cleaner and I'm assuming thats why I cant run hardly any Windows utilities.
Every time I try to run anything like Defrag, error Check it errors out saying a file is missing, different files for different utilities. I'm betting the Registry has been picked apart. Although windows runs and with FF I can surf the web without errors.
As of right now I am going to give it back and tell him to take everything off the hard drive that he wants to keep and I will reload windows after that!

Re: IE7 Uninstall
If the registry has been screwed over like, then its for the best that it gets re-installed. ^_^
