Re: How to open .VCR Files

Post by DaIceMan »

I have an ATI All in wonder 9700 Pro, and it's working fine on XP. I actually just reinstalled it a few weeks ago (using the files from ATI.com) to cap some video. The ATI library is the "Multimedia Control Center". By default, when completely installed, it puts a toolbar on the right side of the screen with all the player options (DVD, Player, VCD, CD, TV, Library). I have my old CD laying here. I'll try to zip it up and upload it for you tonight after work to see if that helps, but in the meantime, I would say you should probably find the catalyst cleaner and wipe out everything ATI you have installed right now so you can start fresh when you get the CD.

The fact you had been left hanging for so long tugged on my heartstrings, so I dug extra hard and came up with something.

I've found and downloaded the ATI VCR codec from here: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/ ... tivcrx.exe

Despite the massive warning that pops up, these were the official codec files from here: http://support.ati.com/ics/support/defa ... stionID=36

Unfortunately it looks like the .vcr file is corrupt, as I can play the other VCR sample files it installs, but when I open your video it does nothing in Winamp, and just plays the audio in Media Player classic.

Sorry it's not what you wanted to hear.

are you 100% sure that it's corrupted?

do you have other .vcr files that work ok with you?

please try this another vid (4MB):
http://rapidshare.com/files/85322781/vid1.zip.html

also if you can upload a small video you have in .vcr format so I can confirm that it's not a codec problem or something.

thanks for the help.

Yeah, it's definitely your video.

Install and run the codec pack I posted and it will give you sample .vcr files to run (you can find these on your start menu).

I tried both of them and cant play the video either.

media player classic and VLC media player bot hplay audio in the first clip but no video. Second clip I didnt even hear audio, but I might have not had my speakers up :)

ONLY thing you can do do try and convert them is by using the ATI software - it is on ATI's website and on the disc that came with your card.

I have been trying to download the ATI library and all other stuff from ATI's site...they all don't work.

and I can't open the 1st link...says invalid link.

and also I already have the ati codec installed but where is the .vcr sample?

can you just upload it?

thanks

Dude, its an OLD video card that has lost support YEARS ago - the multimedia center for ATI is around 85mb so it isnt as easy as someone downloading it and sending it to you ;)

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/common/mmc9-14.html

download the Multimedia center - it DOES work IF you have the ati card installed in the computer you are running it on.

Thats it - period - I downloaded it fine, no errors at all. That download DOES work.

Mike

If you still only get a black screen - then it comes back to what Dan told you - they are corrupt.

I really dont think anyone on the planet has any .vcr files anymore. It was a proprietary format only available to ATI users and it had so many problems, I dont even think ATI lept it on their newer AIW cards. Most people would use the built in convertor program to convert it to MPEG1 or MPEG2.

I have NO way of even making a vcr file anymore.
