First Fully-Armed Robots Patrolling in Iraq

Post by Apoptosis »

The title and this picture says it all....

Image
the military has just deployed their new "special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system" (SWORDS) that has been in development for the past few years. What are the SWORDS, exactly? Oh, just some bomb-disposal robots armed with M249 machine guns. Holy ****, robots with machine guns.

I saw this on that discovery show future weapons...apearantly the thing is super accurate because the recoil of the weapon is held back by the stable base. They said they can mount all types of weapons on it, M4s, Grenade Launcher :), and etc

It is more of a infiltration kinda thing, not open warfare.

They send it into buildings with snipers and such, which would be a great use. Nobody is going to try to fight a super accurate machine gun on tank treads

Kinda reminds me of a squaty (and well-armed) Johnny 5.
