8800 GTX crashing computer

Post by CMcguire »

Hey guys I've been having some problems with my GTX 8800 recently while playing games (aka supreme commander) for a while... i.e. not straight away

It seems like the video drivers are crashing for some reason and then the computer tried to restart them but fails to do so... basically the game crashes i get a black screen for a few seconds then the screen comes back on for like a second and then off again and so on until i am able to restart the machine.

Im going to try to clear out my video drivers then do a fresh install of them later today but in mean time any ideas if something else would be causing it?

The card is not overclocked (well it is but it was oced as stock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814143093) so i should hope its not heat related if it is... if it is there really isn't much i could do for it

try updating your 8800GTX to the latest drivers, download from nvidia.com

are you using xp or vista 32bit or 64bit?

im using vista 64bit with the new beta v163.11 drivers and all my games work great except for bf2 and 2142 which still crash sometimes :-k

I unistalled and then restalled the newest drivers (not beta)
and it still crashes... and last time it did it caused machine to reboot...

I just checked the heat to see if that was the problem.. it was only 80C when it crashed...

Any ideas?

the name given for the crashing file is something along the lines of
nnvdlkmdv

now this isn't the exact name at after whatever is going wrong the screen goes black and switchs on and off again and again.. and/or computer crashes so kinda hard to catch exactly what the name is... I'll keep an eye out next time to see if i can get it.

Not sure if this will help you but from what I've seen on other websites this is not an isolated problem. Good luck.

Yeah that sounds like it might be the problem.. and looks like there is no really 100% fix for it... pretty annoying really...
