Geforce 9800GTX !!!

Post by smokin_mitch »

okay so I hear that when vista sp1 comes out they are also bringing out direct x 10.1 and nvida should be releasing their G90 & G92 gpu's (9000 series)

so after only being out for less than a year the series 8 cards are obsolete :toimonster:

I was gonna get another 8800gtx at the end of the year, might change that to 2 9800GTX's (if their out) as well as a quad core, but i wonder if the new series 9 nvidia cards will work on my 680i SLi motherboard? or will i require a pci-e 2 motherboard?

I think the GeForce 8 series was launched on Nov 08, 2006... Think Vista SP1 will be out by then?

actually that information you saw was fake.
the man said that there was over 1 billion transistors. thats a load of crap.
geforce 8800 ultra has only 681 million.
so this new card is fake.

I heard about this fake too, people in a crysis board on gamespot were saying this would be the best card to run the game and such... It will be a while before this card

I think within 2 years is probably closer to when we are likely to see it.
Check out the rough trend between the last three gen card's were released:

Q2 2004 - 6800 Ultra
Q2 2005 - 7800GTX
Q1 2006 - 7900GTX
Q4 2006 - 8800GTX

I seriously think we will be seeing this new card (9800GTX & 9800GTS) around Q42007-Q42008 as on the microsoft website it states that direct x 10.1 will come out with Vista SP1 and that Direct x 10.1 will support new advanced features of a new generation of video cards (ie nvida 9000 series)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

extract from link

"Direct3D 10.1 is an incremental, side-by-side update to Direct3D 10.0 that provides a series of new rendering features that will be available in an upcoming generation of graphics hardware."

lol, yeah but i reckon it might be next year and also i don't think it will be a 9800 card it will probaly be a
9000gts or gtx that will be out next. If they do show that card sooner, there cirtainly making a big jump from the numbers of a 8800. Just imagine the price! they said dis card is 2 times faster than a 8800 ultra and an 8800 ultra is like 1 grand!
that'll take the money out of my wallet if i buy it! :toimonster:

I would expect that if they do bring this card out the price of the 8000 series cards would drop and the new 9800gtx would be priced at the AU$900-1000 mark.

also remember Nvidia usually releases the "higher end cards" of a series first then later on releases the "lower end" cards (8800GTS & 8800GTX came out months before the 8400-8500-8600 cards)

Nah, I got third place so I should have won some headphones, but I got shipped a laptop bag instead (I think 2nd place must have got the headphones). I could have used the headphones, but I already have a laptop bag, so am wondering what to do with the one I won

I wish it'd have been a laptop for every winner >_< but I'm glad I made it into the top 3. There were some pretty good last minute entries that got thrown up so I wasn't sure if I'd even make that.

--- Back on topic ^_^ ---

What if nvidia release an 8900 sometime late this year/early next? That would push back any 9800 release for about another year.

I'm not jumping till 9-series.

I look at it this way: speculation is fun, but I'm not pinning my hopes on anything until I see something that is verified by nVidia or some other credible source (i.e. the Inq does NOT count, I can't believe how many people actually trust what comes out of that rag).

Remember, DX7 was still supported in HL2 and Doom3. It looked horrible, but the support was there. Until DX9 has been reglected to the dust bin in such a fashion, and assuming I can get my stupid SLI to work (damn you to hell, nVidia) I'm keeping the 7900GTXs. At 1280x1024, I just can't justify a new graphics card when solid DX9 render-paths are still available in major games.
Play
Q6600 @ 3.2GHz :: 8GB DDR2-800 :: eVGA 9800GX2 :: 7900GTX (secondary) :: abit IP35 Pro :: 150GB Raptor 10k RPM :: 2x750GB WD Caviar :: 120GB WD :: X-Fi XtremeMusic :: NEC 4551A :: BenQ DVD Combodrive (52x32x52) :: Dual 22" Acer AL2216W :: Thermaltake Armor Black :: Logitech Z5500 5.1

Work
Core 2 Duo @ 2.53GHz :: 4GB DDR3 @ 1067MHz :: 3670 :: Intel PM45 Chipset :: 500GB 5400RPM SATA :: Integrated Audio :: BD-ROM/DVD Burner :: 16" 1920x1080 RGBLED

yep. i looked at your homepage and it was pretty good. nice rig.
i came here cuz i read ur whole watercooling project log. very interesting.

I was pretty sure that they awarded laptops for all top winners because that's what it said on the website.
lol they probaly couldn't pay for all three. Still at least you got something for free right?

anyway, i might buy a series 9 card when they come out.
Why are nvidia jumping numbers so fast? are they trying to catch up to radeon?
The guy who stated that a 9 series card was coming out was not even from nvidia. He reckoned he had an inside friend.
i will not believe this as well till it's veryfied by nvidia.

Nvidia are trying to keep it under wraps(9000 series) so it wont effect there series *8000 sales, as these cards are already better than anything from ATi, why release a card that will kill their sales on the 8000 cards? welll thats my opinion anyway if they dont release the series 9000 cards at the end of the year!

I read it as that at first, but then found out somewhere that they were giving away other stuff for second and third. But yeah free stuff is always good ^_^
