OCZ Technology Announces the Next Big Thing for Memory Optimization with their Proprietary “SPD-Z” Technology

SPD-Z is a tool that allows you to “reflash” the SPD on your OCZ memory for either improved compatibility, improved performance, or in some cases BOTH!

Sunnyvale, Calif.—August 7, 2007—OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory, today unveiled a revolutionary new tool for end-users to enhanced and stabilize their memory modules when upgrading to a new motherboard. OCZ’s patent-pending SPD-Z Technology is the world’s first means for DIY users to reprogram their memory’s SPD (serial presence detect) and remedy an inefficient module and mainboard interface completely independent of BIOS tweaks. Thanks to this convenient method of reconfiguring the SPD, consumers can now enjoy ultimate compatibility, stability, and performance.

“Tweaks of hardware and firmware have become the primary tool of most computer hardware OEMs to differentiate themselves from the field of competitors, however, in some cases at the expense of compatibility,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “OCZ’s answer to the fragmentation of the market is the patent-pending SPD-Z technology that allows users to select custom SPDs from a library to optimize the interaction between the motherboard and memory firmware.”

The first public beta test of SPD-Z will be available for download on the OCZ Support Forums starting today. OCZ’s renowned technical support staff will be on hand to offer advice and tips for those in need. New SPDs will be added every week and community involvement and discussion is highly encouraged on the forum so OCZ can provide the best level of compatibility and service.

Well with them only allowing spoonfed pre-approved SPD's to be written to memory i think the fallout would be minimal.

This is a really neat idea, if cross memory brand compatability with this program worked it would be even better.

With SLI memory and Intel Extreme Memory technology upcoming I wonder how many will use this. I see this being great for enthusiasts and gamers, but how are people going to know the best settings for their boards? Going to get tricky.

That's sounds good. No need to re-enter every RAM setting every time you have to clear the CMOS.
