A new router.
A new router.
Hey im looking for a new router, my dad is getting very annoyed with my older brother blowing out 17 gigs of quota in 10 days. He wants me to find one, if it is possible, that records how much each user has downloaded. I dont really think dad cares about the price range(so long as it isnt a ridiculous price like $300 AU). a wireless one would be nice too
Any ideas??
Thanks
***EDIT***
Forgot to add i would like one i can host a game server from.

If you want to get into it.... http://www.clarkconnect.com
If not that i would look into the gaming routers either through linksys or dlink.

Re: A new router.
you could install IPCop on any old system thats laying around, i know it has all kinds of addons. its free, all you would need is to put a few NIC's in the old system load and configure it. You can add a NIC specifically for wireless too (BLUE). it has graphs and logs to show the traffic, etc. traffic shaping.

Re: A new router.
I know it a little more than what you were looking for. I am sure any newer router with quality of Service (QOS) should do the job for you. Most of them are coming with services that give info for that.

Re: A new router.
i think i found one that will do the job, here it is the Billion 7401VGPM

Re: A new router.
I dont know if its open source, but it is an ADSL router, so you need DSL to use it.

Re: A new router.
Check out if something running the DD-WRT firmware or something similar will work. I've got (well, had, it got fried by lightning through the WAN port
) a Linksys WRT54GL, which worked quite nicely for only $50, you'll have to check if the firmware can do exactly what you want.
