D975XBX2 BIOS Identification

Post by Johnny_B500 »

Hi I have a brand new D975XBX2.

My question is how do I identify the factory BIOS version as I am looking at purchasing a Q6600 which requires BIOS version 2395 or higher to support the processor?

Many thanks in advance...

Intel Desktop Control Center (IDCC) will tell you the BIOS version. Just download the latest BIOS from Intel and you'll know what version ya got! ;)

I have the same problem, a brand new D975XBX2 and Q6600 CPU. If the board comes with a old bios and the CPU wont work with it what then.
Is the bios rev marked on the board or box?

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. So you have no CPU yet? I believe any board rev past 5.05 will have the min supporting BIOS.

Board rev should be silk screened on your PCB.

The revision number on the board also tells you about the BIOS... Look at the AA numbers...

For example just this week Intel incorporated BIOS BX97520J.86A.2777.2007.0805.1747 into all the production boards... When they did this they updated the board revision number from 507 to 508. So, if you have a revision 508 board you KNOW that it came shipped with BIOS BX97520J.86A.2777.2007.0805.1747 already on it... If you find out your revision number via the AA number that is marked on the board by the memory slots or retail box label then you can figure it all out... Attached is a image from the pdf that Intel sends out about revision changes.

You shouldn't have any problems getting the board to post with a Q6600 as long as it's a 5xx revision I do believe...

Oh and welcome to the forums for the two new members that joined and posted on this thread... hope you find what you are looking for and stick around a bit!

Good morning all,

Firstly thanks for the feedback. It's starting to finally make some sense! I actually work in the IT industry and I thought I was going crazy there for a second. I think Intel (or Foxconn) need to be a bit clearer in marking their shipped BIOS versions. The version revision I have is a D53350-507 which seems to be all good, however I would like to see somewhere in black and white the BIOS version associated with this revision before spending money on a Q6600 processor.

Thanks for the help and I look forward to becoming an active member of the forum... 8)

Revision 506 had the update for BIOS revision 2507.
Revision 507 had the update for BIOS revision 2770.
Revision 508 had the update for BIOS revision 2777.

Any board produced in 2007, should have a BIOS later than 2395 on it, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

OK, well thats sounds good.

I think I've searched all of Intel's website with no solid answers. Based on what you said regarding the 2007 production models I'll give it a shot and order the Q6600. I do have an older Pent D sitting in one of my kids PC's so I could always use that if an update is required providing the Q6600 doesn't damage the board if it fails to post.

If anyone has any more info please post it as I don't think I'm the first person to have this issue.

Thanks again! 8)

Board Revision 507 I think shipped with BIOS Rev.2770. According to this document.

Thanks for all of the good information. I am happy to say my board in a Rev. 507. Looks like i'm good to go with my Q6600 SLACR.

Thanks all,

I see I'm good to go with the Quad Core. Now I have to convince my wife after the build that I need water cooling lol!

Please starting your computer, press F2, into BIOS interface.

First interface have BISO version.

BIOS and processor for D975xbx2:
http://support.intel.com/support/mother ... 026614.htm

However, Intel's error has in this processors list!

The Q6600 has two Stepping. It is G0 and B3. The B3 supported need BIOS v2395; and G0 need v2692 or greater! But Intel only has listed Q6600 and need BIOS v2395.

The only difference of the 507 for the 508 would be the new BIOS and the new sensor (aSC7621A)???

Te 508 will be the last revision for are motherboard or to the Intel it launches another one?

Sorry Bad English.

I've never heard of the aSC7621A sensor. A Google search just points back to this thread. If Intel releases a new revision of the BadAxe 2 I would think that the only difference would be in the bios.
