How to: getting our foulding team in the lead
How to: getting our foulding team in the lead
I just figured out a way (not very plausible) to get us into the lead.
I work in an office where we have probably about 100 machines... If I could covertly keep them folding constantly while nobody is on the machine... that would be a lot of folding!
I would fold too if I had decent internet

Re: How to: getting our foulding team in the lead
LOL, I thought about the same thing at my place. Work has a few Hp blade servers with 16 processors in each. That would rock the stat numbers to be way up there. However, non of the CFD and ANSYS jobs running on those machines would get done on time either.
If there was a way to set hours for number crunching from 6pm to 6am (overnight) every night, then the 100's of machines here could be hammering right along.
All I got for machines now at home are:
Packard-Bell Legend Supreme LS1985 500Mhz (running XP, 40Gb HDD, CD-RW) Still my backup machine today for 9 years!
HP Vectra 1.0Ghz - 1st son's machine, has some pep to it.
HP Pavillion 1.8Ghz - 2nd son's machine, works well if he dumps Norton off the machine
Compaq Pesario laptop 2.2Ghz -2nd son's laptop, sweet machine, but he games too much
Dell GX1 400Mhz - wife's machine since the eMachine 1.8Ghz died recently.
A parts machine fixed up to keep her going and happy.
XClio gaming machine 3.0Ghz (Folding@Home, Halo2, Network Server) - My machine, DIY built and chugging along F@H
2- machines in need of parts, both under 1Ghz.

I like the idea!

Here's one thought, have your home location become a WiFi hot spot in exchange for everyone that uses it in the neighborhood to fold for team LR.

Thats another good idea... free internet for those who fold... how would you enforce it though? if their stats arent high enough in a month disable their connection?

Well then I hope you ask yourself if you can borg the systems

With the list of users on the team, if even 10% more got back into folding, things would turn around for the better.

Looks at admin status
I'm open to ideas people. We lost JDW3. He always comes back though so its just temporary. That's the reason for our PPD lost. School is gonna be back in session soon, so college students, high school students, ask if you can borg computers. Write up a nice proposal. Shoot it to me and I'll proof it. remember it can't hurt to ask

If you have a garden, I got a flower pot.

But, we'll keep folding.

Re: How to: getting our foulding team in the lead
it's all baby steps. I started with my daily driver athlon 2200 cranking out a whopping 186pts every 4 days. then built my gamer, added a 1760pts every 20 hours or so. Then the server came along in the form of a few great deals, 1760 every 28-30 hours. Just added another recently. Client of mine had a computer the hard drive crashed on... i worked on it a bit checking it out, the ended up buying a laptop and giving me the machine in trade for my time. $80 new hard drive later and it's dropping a 186 every 4 days.stev wrote:DaIceMan wrote:FINALLY got my ram back today.
