Memory addition

Post by krazy1912 »

Hello,

I am a noob.

I just recently purchased this notebook http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 9877029693

I also put vista Ultimate 64_bit on it and I'm dual booting with Fedora 7.

I no nothing (almost) about computer memory.

I just want to add 512 or so MB to my rig for a little better performance.

Could you guys help me out and point in the right direction to some good RAM?

I'm open to all suggestions.

How much RAM has it got? The link says 1GB expandable to 4GB. Does it have the two slots populated with 512MB sticks?
You might have to get a 1GB stick, depending on what it currently uses.
You can use CPUZ to check.

I believe I have to slots with each 512ers.

I looked under the SPD tab and there were two slots and each time i chose one slot or the other all of the numbers stayed the same except for the serial number. I think this means my first statement is correct.

So I'm thinking I should just upgrade to two 1GB sticks?

Let me know if you need anymore info.

I looked on the Toshiba web site for what they reccomend, but their 1 GB sticks were like 120 each! That is too expensive.

I recommend 2GB or more for Vista myself. My laptop with 1GB was unbearable.

yeah, Crucial confirms 2 x 512. 4gb max. Looks like Ken nailed it dead on.
