DVI-D to DVI-I

Post by kappage »

I need to get a DVI Digital to DVI Analogue.

I have tried to plug a DVI Digital into a DVI port on my graphics card and it didn't show up, so i am assuming that my graphics card has an analogue port.

Could this be fixed by getting a X1950gt?

Thanks

Do you think you could explain a bit more what you are trying to accomplish here please.

What are you plugging the other end of the DVI into?

You sure that things like resolution and refresh frequency were within acceptable limits?

it is within its limits 800 by 600, the Nvidia tools and the windows tools didnt recognise the monitor.

The touchscreen itself isnt Digital, but IBM still put a DFP20 (digital) plug on it, now since that end is digital the other end has a DVI-D on it, so i either need a graphics card that support DVi-D, or get a DVi-D to DVi-A so i can use it with my computer.

Any ideas now?

You have video on it, just the touch part is not working correct?

Any touch screen I have used requires two connections to work, VGA Dsub or DVI (Analog or Digital) and a RS232 (serial) port; and the driver for the monitor.

The Video comes across the VGA or DVI connection and the touch part is handled by the serial port.

What kind of touch screen are you trying to hookup?
I have an OrigenAE X15e that has a 7" Touch Screen.
As Bubba said besides the Video connection there has to be an interface with the computer and software to support it! My OrigenAE X15e uses an Internal USB connection and software provided.

@bubba i had video on the touchscreen but it was very tempormental so i bought a cable for it cost me the world but who cares, but the cable i bought has a DVI-D end on it and my 6600 must not support it because it doesnt recognise it, as for the touchscreen part that can be hooked up with a RS232 cable which i am having troubles getting a hold of.

@camaroguy1998 the touchscreen is an IBM 4820 4ft.

Is there a monitor INF that you can install?

Your 6600 is capable of outputting DVI-D signals (which your monitor apparently needs because of the DFP20 input). However it might be that your monitor can't tell windows what signal it wants (you would have though that the DVI-D cable would have decided that, but apparently it doesn't >_<).

Also check that you have the latest drivers for your video card.

Here is a random workaround that may or may not work  , boot up your computer with the monitor off. When its finished booting turn your monitor on and see if it works. Not having a monitor to output to, the card should default to the DVI-D signal instead of the DVI-A it seems to be using at the minute.

Dan

PS. You know that picture of the RS232 connector you showed us a while back, did you ever work out which was ground? I just googled RS232 and the pinout was the first result >_< (or did you try that and yours isn't a standard pinout?

this guy has one and 'made' cables for his
http://www.digital-car.co.uk/forum/show ... p?p=140545
i followed his instructions for the rs232 cable, its all soldered up i just need to get the cable which i cant seem to buy over here that easily... The only items that eBay seem to have are RS232 to usb converters but i still need a cable.

and for your quick fix around it that was the first thing i tried..... ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Well I've no idea then >_<

After reading the dude's replies in the other thread, it seems like the signal is actually analogue through the DFP20 input. That screws around with proper pin outs >_<

Maybe the problem is then that it is in fact sending a digital signal, when it needs to send an analogue? You should just go back to the ghetto cable (At least it worked), or is that not an option now?

Google DB9 Cable, there is a whole pile of places to get cable.

From what I gather from your link to the other thread is that you don't have a RS232 port on your machine. That being the case you will need a PCI card similar to http://www.usbgear.com/165273.html the reason that the USB to RS232 converter isn't working, couldn't tell you. I have yet to get on to work on the machines at work.

Have you seen this page? http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... 067&rs=260 its the steps to install the screen per IBM, and from the looks of this http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... s1R1003135 there is a special cable thus the reason for the funky pin arrangement.

see chapter 2 page 4 -> http://www-900.ibm.com/cn/support/libra ... kx6mst.pdf

I deal with IBM on a daily basis, LOVE their stuff it last for ever and it takes a beating, but when you need to work on it... I'm glad I have a service agreement.

Like I said before, I have yet to get one to work with XP or 98. I go the PCI card route.

Both, the first (small) one is for the male side of a RS232 cable, the second is for the female.

Well the monitor is going 100% i can do what the hell i want with it now, jsut 1 draw back (i know its this i proved and tested it) when ever you put pressure on the screen (the LCD part behind it) it turns a funny color i made sure it wasn't my soldering and i even had it running and pushed on the edge of the screen so it looks like my touchscreen is cactus..... But anyways im still going to do somthing with it i was thinking of making a Juke Box out of it.
