Vista 32 bit HP easy setup issue

Post by jrlosh »

Whenever I start my HP total care advisor program it tells me that the HP easy setup update is required. I click run and it tells me that microsoft based script has stopped working. I check online for a solution and there is no help. I just bought the laptop yesterday and I beleive the problem resulted from me uninstalling something I shouldnt have when I was uninstalling all the pr-loaded software that I did not need on my computer. Here are the problem details:

Factory restore and try uninstalling the things more carefully? I won't touch vista at the moment, so can't really suggest anything more helpful.

Thanks Dan.
I wonder if I can just uninstall the HP total care advisor all together?

Or do that, its not essential to the running of vista.

What is it supposed to do anyways?

Well when I start the HP Total Care Advisor it shows me the status of:
Warrenty overview
Internet connection
PC health
Battery life
Printers
System Storage info
Security
PC update status

From what I can gather it is a program that makes it easier of the comp user to keep track of whats going on and possibly how to fix some isssues.
Attached is a screenshot of the HP Advisor

The only thing that worries me about the part of this "advisor" that is not working is that when I try and open a chat window w/ tech support that does not work as well.

While its nice to have all those in one place, it doesn't seem critical (except maybe the tech support chat thing that has broke).

Up to you if you want to fix it. Is there no CD's with its installer on? At the very least HP should have it available for download to try and reinstall it.

Well I am in the process right now of trying to order product recovery disc seeing as how they no longer come w/ the computer. I found out after the fact taht I should have made my own right after i set up the PC. Now I am just guessing but if I make the recovery disc now and preform the product recovery that will do nothing to fix my current issue correct?

Couldn't say for sure, could always try it and see if it still lets you make the discs. I would have thought that there would have been a built in check in the burning program to make sure that the recovery disks are good. (otherwise a bad disc burn might cause your PC to not work when recovered.)

However, there should be a recovery partition on your drive that does the same job as the CD's would. You have to hit one of the F keys (can't remember which F10/F12 maybe) to choose to boot into it during the BIOS/boot. From there you will be able to do a sys restore.

I HAVE THE EXACT same problem with my HP Pavillion dv6607nr!
does anyone known how to fix it? do you know if the OP was able to fix it ?

these HP Pavillions are comming out with so many defects! :x

this my second notebook. I bought the first one and as soon i started it i got the critical problem thing.
then that exact same day i bought it the computer started crashing and crashing . So i went to best buy angry as hell and demanded an exchange.
they did give me another one the next day and it worked ...and i didnt get the critical thing on the hp advisor..but then like 1 week later.
the hard drive crashed out of nowhere. I was so pissed, i called HP and they told me they were gonna send me another hard drive and that i could replace it myself cuz it was a costumer replaceable part. So i had to wait like a week..I finally got the hard drive and the new vista disc and hp stuff..
but now that ive installed everything once again i'm getting the critical problem thing.
it such a hassle! i just hope this hard drive doesnt crash like the other ones!
