Need Help!! Will this be enough?
Hello all, I'm ordering a new dell desktop computer, and I was wondering if any of you would recommend this computer for some of the newer gaming titles that are about to be released, namely-Crysis and Unreal Tournament III, but also some of the older ones (i.e.-Rainbow Six Vegas and Ghost Recon 2). Here are the specs.
XPS 410 Intel® Core™ 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
Memory 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs
Video Card 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
Hard Drive 320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
CD or DVD Drive Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
Any advice would be much appreciated, Thank You.

I'd get at least a 8800gts. What PSU and motherboard are you using? A Quad is good but most games don't even take advantage of dual cores. I would get like a 6750 unless your dead set on a quad. Memory is fine, and so is everything else.

Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
I thought about the 8800 I'm just not sure if I'm willing to shell out the extra $$$ for it. I'm not really dead set on having the best graphics, as long as I can run the game above the minimum settings, I'll be good. Do you think the 8600GTS will be able to do that?

Take a look here, its a review one of our staff memebers did. It'll give you an idea of what your setup should do. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/499/4/

Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
IMO- i would go with the 8800 also.. unfortunatlly is was looking at the dell website and it doesnt look like you can customize with a lower end version of the 8800 ie the 320mb gts- it was GTX or nothing. Have you thought about building your own computer? if you go to http://www.newegg.com and price out all the parts Dell has listed for that system you might save yourself close to $1000 or could get that 8800 and still save a $700 or so.. you didnt list the price so i cant say for sure- but it looked to be over $2000 at dell..
the 8600 should run any game out NOW at medium settings fine fo rthe most part. I think you will find that in six months to a year you will be wanting to upgrade the card to keep up with the new releases.

You could get a Dual Core proc then use the money you saved to get the 8800
Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
If I were you I wouldnt even get a video card from dell, buy the computer, then pick up a good card from newegg for cheap
All of their mobos have an integrated card, so you can run from that until your video card gets in

Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
Thanks, all you guys have been very helpful, I decided to scrap the quad core and settled for the "Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)" (which saved me about 100 bucks). Now for the video card I decided to order the lowest end card available for my pc (the 128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS) because I can't order the desktop without some video card pre-installed (I'm customizing it by the way), and what I'm going to do is replace it once I get this one from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130082). Now my only question is this, is this card from newegg the same 8800GTS that you guys are talking about, I ask because it's way cheaper than I expected, so I'm not sure if this is the right card. If it is the right card, the grand total of this desktop will come out aound $1300 minus taxes (I already have my monitor). Thanks again for all your help.smack323 wrote:IMO- i would go with the 8800 also.. unfortunatlly is was looking at the dell website and it doesnt look like you can customize with a lower end version of the 8800 ie the 320mb gts- it was GTX or nothing. Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
I played R6: Vegas and the first part of Bioshock on a 7600GT. I was able to play at 1280X1024 with every option on low or off. I bought a 8800GTS and have since been able to play both at 1280X1024 (monitor's max resolution) with everything on or high. So to answer your question a 8600GTS will play both games. If they play them to your level of expectation is a different story.

Go with the 8800GTS 640mb and you won't regret it.

Re: Need Help!! Will this be enough?
yes that is the correct card. Evga is good with the mail in rebates also.. i got mine in about 4 weeks.. it was $40 off the 8800 640mb. you should be able to get close to retail value for that 8300 selling it on ebay or craigslist.com. I hate how those places force you to get an overpriced video card.. oh and dont even get me started on the price they charge for RAM..
