Control Panel not opening up.

Post by thereisnospoon »

I recently upgraded my graphics card to the Geforce 8800 GTX. I installed the latest drivers from the nvidia site. The problem is, whenever I try to open the control panel, the desktop blinks but nothing opens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail. Thanks in advance.

Go run driver cleaner pro to completely remove all driver traces. Then try re-installing the card and drivers (might help if you re-downloaded those too).

Ah, I meant the nvidia control panel. Sorry I was not clear.
Is there a way to access it through Start>Run or some other way? I only need to get my fps up from 60 to 100.

Yes, I've tried this four times, and there's no change.

If that driver is giving you problems try using the new NVIDIA beta driver. Also keep in mind the driver release notes state that at times it could take up to a few minutes for the NVIDIA control panel to respond after the driver install.

A friend of mine recommended me to try the beta drivers. I have tried that aswell, but still the same results. My computer has been on for over a day now, and still nothing. :P Maybe it's not the drivers fault, as I have tried to uninstall/install so many times.

Hmm...I personally don't like Driver Cleaner, as I heard it left files left over. Try this program http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655 in Safe Mode because it won't delete files that are in use, like your display driver files. Safe Mode, AFAIK, uses a generic VGA driver.

Amazing how only 60MB of files can make a a $700 purchase (tops) worthless.
