Nice find Bro...thanks!

The graphics card is going to limit you a bit, but if you aren't going to max out the graphics you should be ok. My only advice would be that you are going to have a DX10 card that can't use DX10 with XP.
Vista really isn't that bad!
Forgot to check the core clock, that GPU would be ok, since it is XFX of course

Would something like a 7900GS or 7950GT be better?

depends one the games. If you want future proofing with DX10 then yeah get theat 8x00 series card. But you are running XP, so that has no DX10 Compatibility, so then you don't need a DX10 card

Re: New build, please rate
Yep yep...My question is...under XP, would the 8600GT outperform a 7900GS or a 7950GT?dicecca112 wrote:depends one the games. If you want future proofing with DX10 then yeah get the 8x00 series card. But you are running XP, so that has no DX10 Compatibility, so then you don't need a DX10 card
Also with the 8600GT, I would be ready at any time to install Vista and enter the DX10 world. You gotta admit it...the price is right on those.

Re: New build, please rate
i'd suggest saving up for an 8800 GTS, but it's $280ish
The yet to be released ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro starts at an estimated MSRP of $249
These will be good for upcoming DX10 titles like Crysis

Crucial Ballistix 2GB PC6400 Cas 4-4-4-12 - $109.99 + $47 rebate = $62
With Crucial you know it's going to be micron IC's
While they won't give sky-high overclocks (rated 6400) they should give low sub timings, which is what you want for a (near)stock config.
IF you intend to overclock, they should do well, even if with looser timings.

7950Gt is like 50% faster than 8600Gt! Its some difference. If ytou are playing at 1280x1200 you will have trouble with 8600gt.
Its 7950gt/X1950 or 8800 (8600gts at worse).

2 gigs of Patriot PC2-6400 CL 4 4 4 for $79.99 - $30 MIR = $49.99 with free shipping.
or if you want to buy 2 kits, you can order a 2nd kit from: http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cf ... =CA4354017
where it's $91.88 minus a $40.00 MIR = $51.88 + $5.00 Shipping
