Winchester 3500+

What temp are people seeing at "idle"? I typically see 45-47. If I overclock to about 2.3GHz under some load I am getting up around 60. I'm using the ABIT AV8 board and temp readings have been known to be inaccurate so I'm not sure that the temps I am seeing are right. Although I have blue screened a few times when I get a little above 60 (this could be coincidence). I've been reluctant to start really tweaking the OC because I'm afraid of the heat!

ABIT's temp sensor is notoriously inaccurate. I used to see approx 10C overwhat the temp really was....but tha is stilll way too high for a Winnie.
Give me the specifics about your system here and i'll tell you what I think....most importantly what you are using for a heat sink, and your case configuration (fans, ventilation).

As mentioned, I'm using the AV8 board (3rd eye - which is where I am watching the temps) with a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU HSF. I don't use the variable speed control with the fan, I just leave it at the max - the noise doesn't bother me. My case is a Lian Li PC-60 (supposed to be one of the cooler cases) and the temp readings given are with the front intake fans on high. I'm using 1GB Corsair XMS3200XLPRO & a Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 Pro (which OC's very well BTW!). The only other relevant item is my PSU - Antec Neopower 480W. I think I did a pretty good job on the constuction of the rig and all of my cables etc are tucked away or made as unibtrusive as possible so airflow should be good.

whats the voltage to the CPU? For what you are clocking it should be no higher than 1.5V. Everything else seems okay, though I'm no fan of the Zalman HSFs, they are better than the AMD stock coolers. If possible, I'd throw the stock cooler back on therejust fr comparison, if the temps are about the same, then its the boards sensor, if your temp drops, thn its the HSF...either way, this is too high for a Winnie

I'd have to check the voltage when I get home but I think it's at 1.3. I'm betting it's the temp sensor or BIOS code (the recent versions were supposed to fix the temp issue). If I'm going to go through all the hassle of putting on the stock fan to test it, I'll get a new board

I'd rather have the Nvidia chipset anyway. Maybe I'll put on the Corsair water colling system at the same time. So much to do, so little time and $.

Capper, always the worry wort, my system loads at 55c

and i run it at 1.55v, now granted i dont plan on keeping it at that temp or voltage for the remainder of its lifetime but until i get a better case to put it into i just have to live with the side off and higher temps than i wanted.

The winchesters are not like the Newcastles or XP's....they have totally different thermal properties.
On top of that, he is seeing temps more than 10C higher than I was seeing with stock cooling! there is something wrong there.

No thats my a64 3000+ i have not updated my sig yet that my old overclocking system there.
