Compiz-Fusion of Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy

Post by tekgek »

Hello--

I was wondering of compiz-fusion is in the ubuntu repositories, because I searched, and compiz, came up, but it did not say compiz fusion. If this is not it, does anyone know where there is an ubuntu repository for compiz-fusion?

thanks,
Tekgek

I think i'll try it as I want to try kde 4 but I want compiz of course. I got ubuntu 7.10 on my desktop and as I stated earlier the windows wireless drivers (ndiswrapper) keeps freezing when loading the wifi driver into it. So no internet on that side without running a 100ft cable upstairs. I guess I'll see if kubuntu can just work out of the box.

Do you have an odd wireless card? I've always had them just work out of the box.

Compiz Fusion has been working great on KDE 3 with Kubuntu 7.10... but I tried it briefly with KDE4 Beta 3 and it seemed to try to work, but reverted back to kwin. I may have to try again now that I installed the emerald theme.

I've just got an odd card. I've got a dlink xtreme n pci card. forget the actual model number. However, i've never had it work without the windows driver. probably because its N.

ah... good luck with the wireless driver then...

However, I do have some sexxy KDE4 and Compiz screenshots that I just took :) Will upload them shortly after I shrink them down a bit... dual monitor screen shots.. :)

With a little persistence and knowing the right command to get the Compiz Settings Manager, Compiz Fusion decided to just work with KDE4 with out any additional configuration... don't ask why... I just don't know... But I like it :)

I'm at work running the system in green on my Sig.... So NVidia Graphics.... another guy her at work is running ATI and he got Compiz to run but with some strange issues that could be partly caused by dual monitors.

I'm uploading the screenshots now...

tried using hte ndiswrapper in kubuntu to use my wifi card
did it all right, because i've done it before and got it working on the same card in older versions of ubuntu and kubuntu (7.04 actually). Now it freezes in both ubuntu and kubuntu. I think the ndiswrapper is bugged in this release.

Illuminati, I was wondering if you could post up the sites or walk throughs you used to install kde 4. I'm having problems doing everything. Not sure what i'm doing wrong. I think the walk through i'm using is wrong. keep getting cmakede doesn't exist.

I uninstalled the previous beta of KDE4 I was running and then followed the instructions from the Kubuntu news post:
http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde4-beta3.php

Here are the steps in order to run KDE4 as a full session:
1. install kdebase-workspace and kde4base-dev
2. copy /usr/lib/kde4/share/apps/kdm/sessions/kde.desktop to /usr/share/xsessions/kde4.desktop
3. edit the Name entry in kde4.desktop to be called "KDE4" instead of just "KDE"
4. add the following lines to the top of /usr/lib/kde4/bin/startkde

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/lib
export KDEDIRS=/usr/lib/kde4
export PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/bin/:$PATH
export KDEHOME=~/.kde4
Then it may be a good idea to restart if you just finished installing KDE4... Then from the login window change you session to log you into 'KDE4' (or whatever name you changed it to in step 3).

I've had lots of problems on Kubuntu, probably because I just understand gnome better. However I'm suprised at how well a gf4 mx420 can run compiz fusion. I can run almost everything without any lag with the x.org nvidia driver. This computer is a single core 1.8ghz amd 64 with 1gb ram and a gf4 and I have everything on and physics enabled on the kiba-dock. (better than my x1800 did thanks to bad drivers for ati).
