Post by InspectahACE »

Hey guys...boy i wish i never had an issue with a computer but alas, here it is again....I installed the Zalman 9500LED heatsink last night..after about an hour and a half (reading instructions and Red Sox game delayed a bit) i got the thing on...everything turned on looked great...temps phenomenal...left pc on all nite woke up..was still on...got home from work was not on(did not turn it off)...thought maybe it was the power saving option i forgot to turn off..not sure as i cant turn it on..took out all the ram and tried 1 by 1...switched video cards...unplugged hard drive...nothing obvious...the motherboard light is on...far as i know if there was an issue it wouldnt light up or it would be RED..but its green..im HOPING i didnt mess up the cpu...but im fearful i did..possibly more:(...i even cleared the CMOS to see if that would work lol...but still no luck...as much as possible i didnt want to mess with the heatsink unless it warranted it..im sure it warrants it now..but i thought ID see if i can get some tips here first..PLEASE HELP...my only computer lol...

what if you unhook everything from the power supply and try to jump start it to see if it even turns on. If it does you can use a volt meter to see if the rails are still good.

If you don't know how to do this locate the Green wire on your PSU. There should only be one Green wire, whether you have a 20 or 24 pin power cable. Then take a paper clip and insert one end into the Green wire and the other end into any Black wire. Your power supply is turn on... if it doesn't then you have a dead PSU.

If you are color blind ask for help! :owned:

well to be honest Apop, and thank you for answering rather swiftly...from what im understanding ur reply seems like maybe i made a mis-statement on my post. (but correct me though if im wrong)...my PSU is brand new..and i know i could be a lemon too, but all power turns on...just my rig wont post at all...not even into the bios...from what ive read..(other than here) its could be more like cpu or motherboard(as ive switched ram sticks, switched video cards,) maybe even my hard drive although my friend says even without a HD it should still boot into the bios....i did just install my new heatsink(Zalman 9500LED) and it really seems installed correctly after reading over the manual 3 times...not sure tho...i appreciate the help tho...it was on when i left for work, but came home and it was down...power was on led on rig were all on, just nothing..no HD activity, no video feed, not titter...but power running through...basically like hooking up everything but the HD and turning it on..except the HD does seem to turn on..in other words...all was fine until the heatsink installation...but i cant see any issues...yet lol

i'd still check the rails... first thing i always check is the PSU... I've had several bad PSU's right out of the box over the past 10 years. I guess the second thing would be remove the HSF and see if it was seated right. (look at the thermal paste to tell) if it wasn't it might have fried the board. The CPU should have shut down before getting over 80C.

Well progress has been made. I haven't tested the PSU yet, but i have noticed that it seems one of my 4 sticks of ram has crapped out...BUT....I've tried another stick of ram in the same slot for the memory and it didn't boot up...but when i switched slots( and i haven't confirmed it yet by trying it again and again) I'm fearing maybe the slot on my motherboard might have gone bad...but I'm sure its the ram..hopefully...which means since i put the old stock heatsink back I'm gonna have to change it again since i saw the highest temp i ever saw in my rig since I've had it...80C!!..(I'm just glad the damn thing booted finally) so i shut it down since it went that high in a matter of 2 minutes YIKES!!...But I want to thank Apop for the quick help and tips cuz without his help(of course others too with the other issues I've had) Id've probably gone ape$**t on someone. But for now looks like the ram is the issue. Good thing i bought the 2nd 2 gig kit when i did :)
