Latest flash SSD model promises to grab the attention of data center managers and storage OEMs by delivering unprecedented solid state disk performance with sustained rates of more than 230 MB/s, over 55,000 IOPS and capacities of up to 1.6 TB
SAN FRANCISCO -- Nov. 12, 2007 In a bid to further strengthen its foray into the enterprise market, flash solid state disk (SSD) pioneer BiTMICRO Networks, Inc. announced at the Oracle OpenWorld 2007 event in San Francisco, California its plan to introduce to the market the E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) 4Gbit Fibre Channel flash SSD.
The E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) E3F4FL flash SSD is designed to deliver high-bandwidth storage performance for enterprises handling volume data transfer applications, such as streaming video on demand, medical imaging, data mining, data warehousing and online transaction processing (OLTP). This solid state disk is expected to take full advantage of 4Gbit Fibre Channel technology by delivering sustained rates of more than 230 MB per second and upwards of 55,000 I/O operations per second.
Utilizing the latest high-density single level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory chips, the E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) E3F4FL flash SSD delivers a record-breaking storage capacity of up to 1.6 TB, allowing enterprises to handle ever increasing amounts of data while leveraging the performance benefits of 4Gbit FC technology at the same time. The E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) E3F4FL solid state disk is fully compatible with older 1 Gbit and 2 Gbit Fibre Channel devices, ensuring seamless integration with legacy FC-based storage networks.
"These upcoming E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) flash SSDs equipped with the latest in FC technology will benefit enterprise users who need to beef up their networked storage systems with the fastest, densest, and most reliable solid state disks," said Rudy Bruce, Executive VP for Marketing and Sales and CMO at BiTMICRO Networks. He further added, "The user's IT investments are protected since the E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) E3F4FL flash SSD's backward compatibility with previous Fibre Channel standards completely eliminates the need for collateral upgrades."
"Some segments of the enterprise storage market require very high performance and reliability. Increasingly, datacenters will look to SSDs to satisfy these requirements." says Jeff Janukowicz, Research Manager for Solid State Drives at IDC. "Solutions like BiTMICRO's 4Gbit Fibre Channel flash SSDs powered by its high performance EDSA(TM) and LUNETA(TM) ASICs will help to enable this fast-growing market sector for SSDs. IDC expects worldwide enterprise SSD revenues to grow by 76% annually from 2006 to 2011."

About EDSA(TM) and LUNETA(TM)
The Enhanced Datamover and Storage Accelerator (EDSA(TM)) flash I/O controller is a proprietary ASIC that succeeds the highly successful disk controller chipset of BiTMICRO(R)'s electronic disk technology. The EDSA(TM) flash I/O controller supports large block NAND and AND flash as well as single, dual, quad-die flash devices, allowing BiTMICRO to hike E-Disk(R) Altima(TM) solid state disk capacities to terabytes of pure flash memory.
EDSA(TM) goes hand in hand with the Logical Unifier of Extensive Transfer Arrays (LUNETA(TM)) ASIC, BiTMICRO's proprietary flash memory management interface controller that is designed to orchestrate massively parallel and multi-block I/O operations on large arrays of flash devices. LUNETA(TM) supports both NAND (SLC or MLC) and AND types of flash memory and is typically used in designs to complement the EDSA(TM) controller in applications that require scalability and management of larger amounts of flash devices.
