New Lightsmark 2007 OpenGL Benchmark

Post by Apoptosis »

LIGHTSMARK is a new benchmark/demo with real-time global illumination and penumbra shadows created by Stepan Hrbek.
Lightsmark3.jpg
Lightsmark3.jpg (22.84 KiB) Viewed 18964 times
Natural lighting makes artificial graphics life-like. Computers get faster, but rendering more polygons doesn't add value if lighting looks faked, so insiders know that the next big thing is proper lighting aka Realtime Global Illumination. Typical workloads in realtime rendering will shift. Lightsmark simulates it. Global Illumination renders often take hours. Is your computer fast enough for realtime?

Before Lightsmark, realtime global illumination was limited to small scenes, small resolutions, small speeds, specially crafted scenes with handmade optimizations. Lightsmark breaks all limits at once, running in reasonably sized scene (220000 triangles) in high resolution (1680x1050) at excellent speed (100-400fps). Lighting is computed fully automatically in original unmodified scene from 2007 game World of Padman, not tweaked for Lightsmark and with all sorts of geometrical difficulties, with extra rooms hidden below floor etc.
If everyone will take a second and download the application and run it at 1280x1024 it would be great!

Lightsmark 1.2 torrent, standard download, US mirror - 29MB, Windows installer

Be sure to post up your scores as well as your system specs (CPU/GPU/Memory and OS)

1440*900 instead of the 1280*1024, so minus the 1% pixel difference gives a real score of 117.8fps.

Specs:
2GB 840mhz 3-4-4-11
280mhz FSB
2520mhz E6600
7950GT XT 256MB
AW9D MAX

I used this v1.2 benchmark in my latest video card review... check out what seven cards do on the same system: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/590/10/

alright so its not 100fps or anything, but i was solid in the 40s til the punumbric shadows dropped me to 17fps.... i even hit 90 a few times.
its clear from looking at my signature that the 7800GT is holding me back

not bad for my first benchie in Vista though :D

The test bench

E6300 @ 1.86GHz
Bad Axe 2
2gb Kingston Hyper-X DDR2
ATI 1950XTX 512mb
Lightsmark 2007 - 1280x1024.jpg
Lightsmark 2007 - 1280x1024.jpg (38.06 KiB) Viewed 18828 times
At 1024x768 it jumped to 118.0.

I tried to run it on my laptop but it wouldn't let me due to it not running the current ATI drivers, I'm stuck with Dell's :?

If you had of done the benchie at 1280x1024 you would have gotten closer to 64fps, I know that your monitor doesn't do that res, but 1440x900 is within 1% of the score for 1280, so try it again in that res.

good 'ol Athlon XP @ 2.21 GHz
OCZ Value RAM 1024 Dual Channel @ 354MHz(tehnically its underclocked quite a bit, but keeping 1:1 ratio)
Sapphire Radeon X1650 PRO 512 @ 655/1864(may or may not use 512, 'Graphic win size' can only be set to 256 in BIOS)
Catalyst 7.7(it cant use 'Fullscreen' mode when i use newer(7.8 / 7.9 / 7.10) drivers for some reason 'Directdraw error')

not too bad for how old the technology is :finga:
(dont worry, i dont mind making EVERYONE look better, lol)
