Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
hi i've almost finished purchasing parts for my computer just the monitor, burners, ram and graphics card ... i am still undecided on which graphics card[asus prefered] to buy..something that will not barely support vista but WILL support vista and dx10+ playing games such as cs and wow ..thanks and another problem picking the monitor lol i want a normal 19inch lcd monitor none of those wide screen ones...not sure which one to pick was thinking of samsung sync master 940N..thanks
Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
I can't think of a better DX10 card right now than the 8800GT...the most bang for the buck. Actually, since you're only playing WoW and CS, you could go with the 8600GT but the 8800 is such a superior card and future proofs you if you upgrade to the more current games.
I'm no help with choosing a monitor. I'm a big fan of 20"+ wide screen.

Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
fair enough i'll just get a average 8600 gts for $249 T_T lol i wouldnt mind widescreen its jst the fact that it is really crap for gaming unless theres a function reduce the sides...and make it into a perfect normal 20inch screen while gaming then a 20inch widescreen for movies ^^ that would be a good 20inch widescreen

Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
honestly if youre planning on spending that $250 you reeeeeeally should consider spending the extra $20-$30 for the 8800GT, its night and day performance, and it will forgo the inevitable "i really wish this game played better on my pc, i spend friggin $250 on it and it wont play well on low, wtf??!"

I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm...thus the "T_T lol". You can actually get an 8600GT for closer to $120.stopthekilling77 wrote:honestly if youre planning on spending that $250 you reeeeeeally should consider spending the extra $20-$30 for the 8800GT, its night and day performance, and it will forgo the inevitable "i really wish this game played better on my pc, i spend friggin $250 on it and it wont play well on low, wtf??!"

BTW, I play games using my 20" widescreen without any problems and would NEVER go back to a non-wide LCD.

my 2 cents are in the bucket about the 8800GT, although i'd definitely wait and see where prices go

Personally, I like ATI cards, and I love my 2600XT, HIS is a good manufacturer too, lots of cards with GDDR4 VRAM, and really high core clocks, so maybe consider getting a 2900XT, or wait for the HD 3000 series, just my opinion.

Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
I'd say definitely go with an 8800GT or better. As for the monitor, I have a 22" Hanns-G widescreen monitor for $300 a couple mths ago, which I absolutely love BTW, but I've also heard very good things about Samsung Just do your research so you know what all those numbers mean (like contrast and refresh rate). As for the widescreen issue, while it's important to have the proper aspect ratio when watching a movie, it's pretty much a non-issue for gaming; most newer games have a widescreen setting anyway.
Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
meh...you guys are lucky considering australia is one of the last places to be updated with technology and sadly newegg doesnt ship to aus..big price difference over here...$249 AU for a asus 8600 GTS pcie card and its $355 for a asus8800 GTS and i earn $240 every fortnight its just that i wan this comp to be built asap all i need is the graphics card+monitor lol =='' need another 700 buying a $280 LCD monitor guess i'll go widscreen for the same price a samsung one as well and that leaves me 520 left which shall be spent on the graphics card + speaker +4gb ram speakers are 200 leaves me with 320 and then graphics card is $250 leaves me with $70 enuff for 2gb ram lol
Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
If I were you I would go with a ws monitor, judging by the games you mentioned. Think about this: you are seeing a lot more pixels added to the left and right of the "middle" which would be all you see in the case of a normal aspect screen.
Try a 20" Acer : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824009121
Then go with the two gigs of ram, a $50-100 set of speakers, and the 8800 GT (you mentioned GTS, the GT is a hundred bucks less)
Then you've got : $200 monitor, $100 ram, $100 speakers, $250-$280 card and an extra twenty bucks to spend on your better half.

Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
ok i figured it out i earnt 380 this fortnight i'm going to buy a 22inch asus lcd screen(344) + asus burner and next fornight i buy 8600gt+ram+hdd and i'm all set and according to people f rom whirlpool forums(australia's top pc+broadband site/forum) says taht the 8800's will drop and when i do get a 8800 i'll put it onto my current comp which is using a agp 9600pro
Re: Picking the perfect graphics card+lcd?
Everything drops in price eventually, but I don't see a considerable drop on the 8800GT for some time. I hope you like the 8600GT, but I doubt you will. In comparison to the 8800GT it is rubbish.

i highly recommend the 8800 GT.. its not only better than the gtx/gts but its CHEAPER
for your moniter.. pretty much any widescreen LCD with a response time of less than 8 ms but make sure ur comp can handle the resolution well o_O
