Swapping mainboard under Vista with Matrix RAID was easy

Post by pmeinl »

I swapped my Intel D975XBX against a Gigabyte P35-DQ6 and expected having to do a fresh install of Vista because I had configured Matrix RAID on the D975XBX and the chipsets differ (975/ICH7 vs. P35/ICH9).

To my suprise the swap went fine without reinstall:
0. Swapped the board
1. Configured SATA as RAID in BIOS.
2. ICH9 SATA recognized the existing raid sets without problems.
3. Vista x64 booted without problems.
4. Vista installed lots of new drivers.
5. Vista ony asked two questions:
- Need NVIDIA grphics driver? I clicked "search online", and Vista found it.
- Problem with SMBus device, find solution? I clicked "find solution" and vista showed an hyperlink to the newest version of Intel chipset installtion utility, I clicked it, Vista installed chipset info.
6. Vista runs fine on the new mainboard.
7. Manually installed new Version of Matrix Storage Manager (even though the old one seemed to work fine).

I moved to the P35 board to see if I can install 8GB RAM in it, which I was unable to do with my D975XBX.

Nice!! :supz:

Seems vista do some things as they are supposed to be done! I hope they iron out the glitches and the performance issues and it will be a great os to work on!

But seriously, since you didnt have any problems with the RAID well all is good even if vista failed to fix the system!
