help config gaming rig
Re: help config gaming rig
so the best video card for that budget is indeed the 8800 gt ?
Re: help config gaming rig
Until we see the new GTS offerings with the G92 I would say Yes, the 8800GT is the best bang for the buck. I hear the new GTS will cost a tad over $300, but we'll have to wait until December to be sure.
Re: help config gaming rig
I would replace the ram with PC6400 ddr2-800.

XFX PVT84JUDF3 GeForce 8600GT Video Card @ Newegg.com now for only 89.99 after 20 dollar rebate. A couple of thoses in SLI would be cheap but uber IMHO

Actually, a pair of 8600GT in SLI would be crap compared to a single 8800GT. Not even close!

Re: help config gaming rig
DeusEx I've read through the posts. Tell me if I have this right?
This rig is for a friend? His budget was $1000 and you made him go to $1100, correct?
So he can't go any higher, but he wants a good rig for games FOR HIM!
Will he be interested in overclocking the rig, or even let you to do for him? --> This is a VERY important factor when deciding on what parts to get!

Re: help config gaming rig
It is also too early to count on SLI to boost you high enough in performance. Some games still don't support SLI right away.
