XP wont see sensors D945GCNL

Post by =CB= »

My old Abit board finally bit the dust. Got a D945GCNL. I did not clean the hard drive and reload XP. I did run the Intel software disk, and then went and downloaded all the latest BIOS and drivers, and installed them. No issues - except the Intel monitoring software (Desktop Utility) doesn't want to see the sensors on the board.

I've tried -
Reloading the chipset drivers
Trying both the 2.xx and 3.xx versions of the Desktop Utility
Tried other 3rd party hardware monitoring programs

The soft ware gives no errors - just does not see the sensors - any of them - at all.

So, no fan speed, no temperatures, no voltage.

The sensors do show up in the BIOS set utility at boot-time. They "work" too, as the numbers will vary somewhat while you look at them. This tells me the sensors are "working".

Since the 3rd party software(s) didn't see the sensors, I'm guessing its some issue with a driver.

Where do I go now?

Many thanks!~

(running P4 3.2ghz on it, 2gb memory, nothing else special, XP SP-2 fully updated).

The way to go (and you aren't going to like it) is to reinstall windows from scratch.

XP is customised during loading to support certain hardware, so it shouldn't be swapped from one board to the next. Possibly, you might be able to get away with reinstalling windows on top of the existing install (messy), and see if it fixes it that way. But the best way is to start again.
