NVIDIA 780i and 790i Motherboards Are Soon To Be Released

The NVIDIA 780i and 790i chipset powered motherboards are about to come out. The 780i SLI is using the 680i SLI's south bridge and north bridge plus a BR04 chip, so there isn't a big difference between the boards except for better 45nm processor support and triple SLI. The 790i seems to just add support for DDR3 memory kits. Is the 780i a new motherboard in the sense that it just adds a PCIe 2.0 bridge chip? It will be very interesting to see what ASUS does with the Striker Extreme II Formula(780i) and P5NT-Deluxe(780i) motherboards that are due out soon.

These pictures show the 780i with an aftermarket chipset cooler that is huge! The stock cooler is in the background, so don't expect these boards to come with that cooler.

790i = 1600 FSB + DDR3-1600 + Triple SLI

- 780i = 1333 FSB + DDR2-1200 + Triple SLI
- The heat sink that is on the 780i board isn't after market... that's the stock cooler... the thing in the background is the optional fan it seems... WOW!

We can only hope their "new" chipset reflects the performance we got from their 8800's in the last year!

maybe the 790i... the 780i is nothing more than a 680i with a PCI Express 2.0 bridge chip...
