malnurished horse
Who do you call about this. Me and my girl were on a walk tonight, and saw a horse that was really skinny and out of shape so we walked up and checked it out. (just in case you are wondering we had a flashlight lol) And the ear had scabs in and bugs all in them. Then the other ear was broken in half. And ribs were sticking out of the side... it was horrible. The skin looks like it was infested with mange. It seems like nobody has paid attention to the horse in years. Like the owner died or somthing. Who do you call about this? What do they do? I don't want the horse to be put down but, someone needs to find out. Do you call the wildlife control. Animal control or what organization.
Re: malnurished horse
Contact your local humane society, animal shelter, or animal control agency.
Re: malnurished horse
If you have a family vet you could try that too, they will know what to do.

You would call the Humane Society. In St. Louis area, they have a "ranch" called Longmeadow Rescue Ranch where they take in large animals and either nurse them back to health and adopt them out, or humanely put them down. They even have a program where you can "adopt" an animal that's there. I think you pay towards the care of a specific animal, and then you come visit it and all. It is unfortunate that people will take on the responsibility of caring for an animal without the means or ability to do so.
Re: malnurished horse
There is a house near me that probably has 1 acre of land tops, and they had a horse fenced in their front yard for about a month. It was seriously grazing 2 feet from their front door, in an area smaller than most peoples houses. They eventually fenced their entire yard, but still, a horse needs at least 2 or 3 acres, and somewhere to get out of the weather.
The horse is healthy though, but is probably starving for some exercise.

Yea it's sad, at some point they have to know they can't care for the animal, plenty of people can and will but they just let them get worse and worse. In Missouri they have two options when the Humane society shows up, sign the animal over and they take them, or they get a court order and take the animal and prosecute for animal cruelty.

Re: malnurished horse
I hope they do that here. I'm going to get some pics of it tonight to bring up to the people so they can see. I'm not some green peace guy who is nuts about animals. But, come on if you want a pet respect it and keep it healthy. This is inhumane to say the least. Watch I'll show some pics of it. Its horrible. And across the street are horses that are VERY well groomed. Its rediculous. Honestly from looking at the pasture. I think the owner is out of town for a long duration or died.
