I got Firefox on the Vista box. IE-7 looks just as weird as VISTA does. And why does VISTA have all of those words rather than icons? And what happened to My Documents and My Computer? Why did they change the add/remove programs???

I've poked around the web to find out that I'm not the only VISTA user who can't download things from the web. Even simple drivers.

I will go Linux if the Toshiba supports it. The model is A135-4656. It only supports VISTA and not XP nor any Linux flavors. However, while scanning the web, there are remedies for XP and the Linux flavors to make it happen. I've downloaded the a bunch of drivers already.

Even if I add more memory to this machine, I don't think it's going to fold any better under VISTA.

I've had a hickup with the main rig in the signature, so I've been slightly out for three days. My son has been out of the area, but has a few WU's to upload.

The dumb VISTA latop is really screwy. It will not show any progress unless you stop F@H and restart it to get any idea how far along it is. Dumb VISTA. :?

The HP Vectra is messed up too. BUT, that's the older son downloading stuff and getting malware + spyware problems. I told him that I'll only fix his computer once when he had that before. Now he has to learn to fix it.

Since this FOLDING week the team had fell to 119 rankings, but has regained to 117.

well, after looking at the specs of the board, I realize mine is not a 939, but instead a 462... so this board wouldn't actually help me diagnose this system's problems. But, if you just have them laying around not folding, PM what you'd like to get out of them, and I will see what other parts I have laying around that I pile up and get some kind of folding numbers out of it.

Soooo... if anyone has a cheap Socket 462/A board, with AGP they are looking to part with to help the folding cause, let me know.

Hello, my name is DaIceMan, and I'm addicted to Folding...

OK, found this very weird problem. Mainly I've been an AMD owner for soooooo long. However, this crazy hiccup is the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH with a file called IdeChndr.sys. It's the Intel Application Accelerator. I could write a lengthy note about this rather DUMB program that has rebooted my computer at random countless of times and causing the F@H to restart from the last frame countless of times. ](*,) I thought it was a problem with OC'ing the computer. But it isn't. So, I can OC so more. :)

IF anyone is running Windows XP with SP2, then REMOVE this Intel Application Accelerator ASAP. :P

The newer Intel chipsets don't support it's functions, nor do the benefits of this program really help any.

So, as of today, the main rig is back on-line folding. =D>

stev... look up iastor.sys in google and look at all the problems Dell owners have had with this. I fought it for (literally) weeks trying to find the problem and fix it. Nightmare!

I'm glad that finding it early saved me much grief!

Now I'm back at that dumb Toshiba laptop. :x A few whacky VISTA things are happening now. F@H runs different under each user ID. Rather than running the same F@H job under each user, VISTA makes F@H download a WU per each user!!! I spend 80% on the machine, so my WU's will get done. The wife spend 20% on the machine and will not see her WU's get done on time. DUMB VISTA !
:|

And to make things worse ... the INQ had this to say about the Toshiba laptops today ...
Toshiba's bloatware keeps the system running (Delete the Toshiba bloatware and VISTA is BLUE-SCREEN-OF-DEATH)
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/ ... -bloatware

Where is that legal CD of Windows XP Home I have around the house! Well, it would help, but I'll need to track down all of those dumb Toshiba drivers to make it work.

OK, not to hi-jack this thread, but KEEP FOLDING team !

I'm a little behind this week, but did get two WU's completed for the extra push this week.

Comparing some notes, LR is at 117 ranking. By the time we take out the team at 116 in under a week, we'll be hit from behind by a third team putting us back at the 117 ranking. So, we either need to keep up the pace to the new year =D> or fall back a few rankings on the F@H charts. :(

I'm only a little fish in this F@H pond for putting out the WU's, but it does make a difference as others fold too! So, for those out there that can get a WU or two done in a week, keep at it. :)

For our power machines, keep running! :P

We need a goal and why not make this push to the new year everyone! :P :P :P

I firmly believe in this theory, and have thought more about it in the last week or so. I'm going to head out to the garage and see what machines I have out there. Most of them are old, but according to information gathered from fahmon, the deadlines on little units are 60-90 days, and I am sure I have at least 2 more machines that can easily make that deadline just sitting around doing nothing. Even if I only get 1 WU a month out of each machine, it helps the team, helps science, and helps me stay ahead of wickedld9. ;)

I've been impressed to see a 1Ghz AMD processor crank out a three or four 500 point WU in a given month. To bad the MOBO can't give a mild OC to make it a little more peppy. A simple 100 to 250Mhz OC adds a little nice boost since the power is already turned on in the box.
