Gotta type fast b4 the computer freezes! I have an ATI 650 Theater Pro, and my computer freezes up! If I am connected to the internet, it will freeze. If I set the Catalyst to record while I am gone, it usually freezes b4 recording. This is a hard freeze, and I have to restart the computer. I have dial-up, and if I connect to the internet while watching tv, the tv starts to get jumpy and then completely stops until I am connected to the internet. It may be a problem with the tv card and the modem, but I don't know. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem, and it didn't work. The ATI card was such a pain to install with all the drivers and the codecs for the sound, that I would reload the OS b4 the card! I have xp pro. I bought this thing for Vista Home Basic, but at that time it was not compatable. Is it now? I will answer any questions you have about specs as I built this computer.
Thanks
Debbie

Re: OMG This card is KILLING ME!!
I'm not using Firefox, just plain Explorer. I am using my laptop now, so I have a little more time. I have had the worst experience with this card. It took me about a week to get all the software and drivers and codecs to even work with my computer. I have integrated sound and video, and I believe that the problem is a conflict with the sound from the Catalyst and the modem. I don't have a hardware conflict, so I really don't know how to find out.
Re: OMG This card is KILLING ME!!
What are the specs on your Mobo/processor/ram? I've run into a lot of problems with TV tuners using drivers adapted to operating systems they weren''t designed for. Go in the device manager, or tuner software and check and see if Direct Memory Access is an option for your card if it is make sure it's enabled. Built in video might be part of the problem never had much luck with that and tv tuners myself.
The other thing that comes to mind is resource sharing on the mobo, just because there's no conflict doesn't mean there's no conflict. If the tuner is sharing resources with the modem, or built in video, or both then using them together can cause havoc. Usually in BIOS there's a setting: "Plug and Play operating system", I usually set it to no and let bios allocate resources. However if it is set to no, try setting it to yes, if it doesn't help change it back.
The only other thing I can think of is in bios also: Reset configuration Data it's set to no, you can set it to yes and the mobo will reallocate resources when it reboots.
Other thing to try is update all the drivers for your machine (might want to go to a friends house that has high speed for that). Old drivers can cause a lot of this type problem.
Good luck with it!

Re: OMG This card is KILLING ME!!
Wow, thanks for all the great ideas! Here are the specs on my mobo http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/chips ... 4m800_pro/
Since this is a gaming system, I assumed that I wouldn't need a seperate video card and sound card. Maybe I'm wrong. I contacted ATI, and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the software, and I did, but didn't help. I will check in the bios, and also put the card in another slot. As for the rest of the computer, I have 2gig ddr2, and 2 160g hd. I have 97% free space on my primary hard drive, AVG Free, XP Pro, and I don't actually game on the computer, but I do (try) to watch and record TV on it. Missed recording Desperate Housewives Sunday, and that's the last straw! FYI- my husband says watching crap like that is what tore the system up!

Re: OMG This card is KILLING ME!!
Glad to help, integrated video is ok for non-gaming non-video intensive applications, web surfing, office work, general tasks. The good news is that even though it's an AGP video Mobo almost any decent AGP video card will work for TV tuning. Since PCIE video has been around for a while AGP cards have dropped in price. If none of the proposed solutions work I'd get an AGP video card and disable on board video. (as a last resort) You'll get better video, faster frames per second and relieve some of the load on your processor.
Generally TV runs 60 (ish) frames per second, if your watching TV full screen, the on board unicrome graphics chip probably can't keep up. If you decide to get an AGP video card drop back around, any number of people here can point out a good budget card to do the job.
As far as Desperate Housewives go just remind the hubby of the golden rules:
1. The woman is always right
2. When she's wrong see rule # 1
