IP35-E not turning on

Hey,

I have a IP35-E Abit Motherboard. I hooked up all my equipment (my PSU is 500 watts) and the CPU fan didn't even turn on. I notice that there is a red light on (as per the manual indicating that power is going to the motherboard).

I checked the jumper settings (almost 100 times), I have removed all Hardware and tested (left only the mb, cpu, cpu fan, and 1 stick of memory attached).

I tried resetting the CMOS etc. not luck.

I have no idea what is wrong and the real kicker is I have TWO exact systems (all new parts, exact same parts) that both do not turn on.

I guess that it is unlikely that you built both systems with the same flaw.

Try removing everything but the CPU and see if you can get any error codes/beeps from the board.

Was there a different PSU in the second setup as well or is it all the same one?

What model power supply? Check the voltage switch on the PSU, if it's set to 230 and you have it plugged into 110 some times you'll get a motherboard power indicator but no joy for booting. Inversely if you have it on 110 and plugged into 220 usually you get smoke from the power supply or the power supply faults shuts down and has to be reset. My personal favorite is the "I flipped this little red (or orange) switch on the PSU while it was running and it quit."

Usually out of the box their set for 110/115, but a couple I have received were set to 220/230 (Loading dock/shipping room joke?)

Let me take a punt at a fix. Have you plugged the on switch onto the right pins?

When i dont have the manual for the motherboard, people wouldn't recommended this, i just drag something over the pins fairly fast to bridge them and if ur lucky you will get the right two... and it will turn on!!

A lot of the shops I deal with do the short the pins thing with a razor blade, for out of case testing it's fast and easy.

The PSU has not switch from 110 to 230. I checked the pins for the case.

I can only see two possible problems:
1. The parts are incompatible.
2. Something is not plugged in correctly.

I have checked the manuals over and over and I am sure that #2 is not the case so I have to try to ID the part that is incompatible so I can replace it.

I am going to try to strip it down to just the MB, CPU and PSU (any other ideas to diagnose?).

The first thing I would try would be a different power supply. The only time I have had known working parts with a board that will not boot it has been an incompatible motherboard. Not saying that is it for sure, but it would be my first guess.
