D975XBX2 + E6750

Post by jsd3610 »

I have a D975XBX2 + E6750 and the system wont boot. I see now that the E6750 is not supported. I have not built a system in 10 years so some of this is new to me. In the old days we didnt have so many touchy issues. Here is my list of parts.

D975XBX2 MB
E6750 processor with Intel fan
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 DDR2 800Mhz 2 sticks
Cooler master 500 PS
ATI Radeon X1050
Seagate 250G SATA drive

I turn the system on with the on board power button. Right now I only have the 3 power supply cables connected, the 2 memory sticks and the ATI card connected. Hitting the button on the board only turns the fan on. The keyboard lights never flash and I dont get a beep. I am guessing that the bios reads the silcon ID in sees that is not supported and stops. If I only install on DDR stick then the brd ticks for ever. It is a very low volume tick from the beeper. I guess that is the bios trying to do a memory test but fails and retries over and over again.

Let me know what you think.

As you've already noticed, it isn't supported, and unfortunately there are no workarounds.

You are going to need to swap the processor out for a core 2 duo version that doesn't end in 50, i.e. a E670 and not a E6750. The main difference between the two, is that the ones ending in 50 have a 1333 FSB which your board doesn't support, but the ones ending in 00 have a 1066 FSB which your board does support.

Thanks. That is what I was afraid of. So the question is do I get a MB that supports my processor or do I get a processor that my MB supports? This looks like a good board but I am not sure what I do with an extra processor (or an extra MB)? It looks like the Q6600 is about $280 now. I can probably get a new MB for much less.

I am leaning toward the Q6600 but not sure how much power supply I really need to support quad core? I only have 500W PS.

What brand/model PSU do you have, or more importantly, what are the amp ratings on all of the rails.

When it comes to PSU's Amps on the different rails are more important than total watts.

I'm wondering what voltage your ram is because most Intel motherboards are very fussy. Our old bx2 wouldn't post on any of the corsair ram, even though the corsair site said it was compatible.

My power supply is a coolermaster with 20A of 3.3V, 20A of 5V and 32A of 12V. I am looking for power specs on a Q6600 but dont see any typical/max specs like I would like to see. Does anyone have a link to that data?

The MB has some specs that I found. It gives a low and high number. The 3.3V is 2A for low and 25 for high. The the 5V is 11A and 27A and 12V is 19 and 46. So if I look at the high numbers I need to buy a new supply also?

I am still not sure what processor to order?
