Where is ATI?

Post by maj0r_pawnage »

It seems like people are only talking about when the 8900 series is coming out, but what exactly does ATI have in store for Q1 08?? Are they just going to release crossfire x and tell people to buy more of their older cards? Im just sitting here basically begging ATI to release a card that is actually worth buying...

the 9k (G100)series is coming out around the same as the R700 core in Q2, but in Q1, the dual G92s come out alongside R680

http://forums.legitreviews.com/about13229.html

they(ATI) arent really releasing any New cards, just new cores for the 3K series to UP the performance

or atleast this is what i am led to believe

RV680 and R700 later. 3850/70 aren't worth buying? News to me.

Also, ATI just released 2 new cards based on a refreshed core, just like nVidia. Although nVidia's low/mid/high-end cards are based on an 1+ year old core, good way to get rid of overstock.

Your post sounds like your bashing ATI and you're making nVidia look like the perfect company. What do you think they are doing with 780i? Tri-SLI? Aka, buy our old 8800GTX/Ultra so our AIB partners aren't stuck with them.

(Not an ATI fanboy, I own an 8800GT)

to the guy above me. I don't think hes trying to sound like an Nvidia fanboy, the cults seem to only form with apple.
But, I think simply put, he is trying to say that Nvidia is coming out with a new powerhouse. Why is ATI not? I like the idea of 1 card since the sli or crossfire isn't as efficient. In another aspect. What is nvidia doing to compete with the sub 170 USD card that out performs their 8800gt 256?
So mid level performance is going to ATI even in the next quarter. And ultra end is going to Nvidia I think. Altho, triple 3870s seem like they would beat a set of 8900 cards in sli. We won't know till its out. The only downfall of all this 3 and 4 card setups is the fact of games utilizing it. Think about it. SLI isn't even perfectly used. WTF kinda PSU would it take to run 4 cards?

hmm well i have an asus maximus, im wondering, since i have two pci-e slots, and the mobo says it supports crossfire, can i run two 3870x2s?(this gts is getting old and struggling to run new games on high settings, and im looking for a good single card from ati and the 3870x2 seems interesting...)also, would it be possible to run 3x crossfire with one 3870 and one 3870x2?
