When you probably plugged in both cables.. (a p\s2 keyboard and a USB cable).. Well this MB picks up the keyboard on both cables and get confused... If you unplug the p\s2 cable everything works correctly. trust me it was really confusion and goes against the grain but it works... The f2 even works in the BIOS if you make sure the F-lock light is on on the reciever module. try it give me shout if it works..
I had this problem, at first I thought it was the MB, then the Keyboard. I've since replaced my keyboard with a logitech "Wave" keyboard. The thing about it is it only uses a USB reciever and the "Keyboad Not Detected" problem went away. My point is I think your fix is the cure.

It's not the fact that there are two keyboards plugs used, but the fact that it's on PS2.
Thats right. Using a USB keyboard will definitely solve the problem. Unfortunately it costs more to buy an adapter or USB keyboard when I paid for PS/2 functionality and already have a perfectly good keyboard.
Not a rant at you. It's directed at my bitter enemy, the yokel that designed this board.
-Rampage-Motherboard: Asus Rampage Formula CPU: Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz Cooling: OCZ Vendetta 2 Ram: 4GB OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500 5-5-5-15 @ 540Mhz Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Storage: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB/4x 500GB Barracuda 7200.11 Raid 0 Power Supply: PC P&C Silencer 750 Quad Case: Antec P180B Monitor: Syncmaster 245T OS: Vista 64bit
And I did go out and buy a PS2->USB converter for keyboard/mouse.
The unit reset every other minute. First I thought the converter thing was bad, but I tried it on another computer and it worked OK.
On the Intel mobo it doesn't behave properly.
I'm very disappointed in Intel this time round.
These little quirks shouldn't have lasted for so long. They should have been fixed much sooner.
yeah, i have the same feeling. but they even didn't fixed it in the latest (hardware)revisions afaik. maybe they just don't have seen this problem on any of their test-machines!?
is anyone of you still in contact with the intel support regarding this issue?
No, I gave up on it a long time ago. They just denied the problem or referred you to someone else and in turn referred you to yet another ending up in a big circular waste of time. X35/38 was coming don't you know?

yeah, i had the same experience.

yep. there they even don't have have ps/2 ports anymore on their board(s) ...
I hate to say it, but a USB keyboard is the way to go with this motherboard. I've used Microsft keyboards since 1998, but I have to say the Logitech cordless "Wave" keyboard works very well with this mb.
PS
For those thinking about reading too much in this post...no... i'm not blaiming Microsoft's keyboards for this problem; that belongs to Intel's ps/2 ports!
Ok after loking at the responses I did a little more testing and found some more out... If I plug in a old ps2 keyboard while leaving in the USB for the MS keyboard \mouse both keyboards work .... WEIRD.. of course this was after a restart and a cold boot and warm boot (no difference) If I use just the ps2 keyboard it works ok.... But If i plug both cables (usb and ps2)of the MS keyboard\mouse in I get no keyboard on cold boot. If I unplug the ps2 plug and leave in the USB from the ms keyboard\mouse I am fine on the cold and warm boot.... so think it through Intel... Get a solution for these guys... the issue is cold boot with ps2 port
I recently changed my power supply to a PC power and cooling 750. My microsoft ergonomic keyboard would no longer work on a cold boot. Upon re-booting it picked it up just fine. I am using a D975XBX2 MB. If I plug the KB into my old AMD/Asus system it picks it up fine on a cold boot. If I plug the old KB from the Asus system into the newer computer with the new PS and Intel MB, it works fine on a cold boot! Both KB's are PS2. What gives? If I didn't need to use the ergonomic KB my problem would be solved. So I bought a PS2 to USB converter cable. Plugged it in, booted up. Still no KB. And the USB connector on the converter gets REAL warm quickly. $6 down the drain. I did upgrade the BIOS. That didn't work. I'm running out of patience with this problem and am about to throw in the towel and buy a USB KB. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
clint
I have the very same issue. My first PS was a Silverstone 500w then the 750w PC P&C. Both PS's same problem. I would recommend buying a USB KB and get it over with. Intel isn't going to fix something the customer can fix with another $100 bill.

Thanks for the reply. I am going for the new keyboard. The one thing that bugs me though is why? I had a XION power supply till it burnt out. That prompted the PS change and here we are. I dislike not knowing the reason for things. All I can figure is the PC P&C fires up the 5 volt supply just a tad to late. The BIOS has already looked for the KB before the 5v is up and running and has moved on to it's next check. If I cold boot the computer and hit the reset button 5 seconds into the boot it WILL find the KB.
This is all just guess work with nothing based in fact. I could be WAY off base.
I really wanted to get back into Intel MB's for this computer but I may have to go back to another brand for the next one. The onboard audio on this MB hasn't exactly treated me well either.
Take care,
clint
Your "cold boots" - do you unplug your power supply (or use a switched power socket) to turn it completly off? Otherwise, the mainboard still gets its standby power...
Anyway. If I "cold boot" from standby power, I always get the keyboard not detected crap. But, if I turn it off completly, I don't.
I have only killed the power to the PS once and the KB was not recognized. I should have explained that a cold boot was (by my definition) with power still supplied to the MB.
A USB KB should be here tomorrow. Hopefully all will be back to normal after that plug in.
