So I've had this pump for just over a year and 4 months. Have had no complaints with it for that whole time till about a month ago.

My pump didn't come back on out of standby, wasn't sure if that was a loose molex or the pump going dodgy. It turned back on after a shutdown and reboot. It did it once again a week later, but this time i fiddled with the molex and it started again, so that could have been me fixing the loose molex.

About a few days ago my PC has had a horrible high pitched whiny noise coming from it, the type so high that supposedly only young people (and people with good hearing) can hear it.

Decided to investigate, as it was giving me a headache and it is my pump. Turning the variable control down to the lowest it goes kind of lessens the intensity (maybe lowers the frequency too) so it's got to be something wrong inside (motor, something jammed against the axle etc).


So what do you ppl think I should do?

maybe there is somthing stuck in it. now, im not an expert on this sort of thing, so take this advice at your own risk. if something like that happened to my pump, the first thing i would do is to take apart the lcs, and take some extra tubing and make a loop with only the pump, and fill it with some drain-o, then let it run. remember though, i have no clue what the hell this could possibly do to your pump though.

Pull it apart, clean and inspect the impeller area, the impeller rotates on a single ceramic bearing and if that's damaged, you might beable to get away with replacing the bearing if nothing else is damaged. If it's inside the motor part (electronics) you'll need to replace at least the motor canister end.

Stev would beable to give you more detailed test info, after all, that's what he does for a living..............

Am I likely to damage my pump by letting it run in this squeaky state?

Currently at the lowest speed it's bearable, but I know I'm going to have to rip it apart and have a look soonish.

If it's already squeaking, that's a tell tail sign that something is already starting to go IMHO, you might want to think about getting some sort of replacement on order. The motor is sold by its self at some places, but you might have to do some searching for one, replacing the whole pump wouldn't be that much more and will be easier to find.

Unfortunately UK -> US shipping makes that a lil expensive

Standard Military (VA) issue, thanks to all you tax payers out there for buying them for me..............
