Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
Using the Crysis benchmark tool 1.0.0.5 Final
Global settings for benchmark run set to High
Catalyst Control Center 7.12
See system specs in sig.
XP Pro 32 bit @ 1280x1024
CrossFire turned off = 31.8 fps
CrossFire turned on = 39.7 fps
Vista Ultimate 64 bit @ 1280x1024 running benchmark tool in 32 bit mode w/ DX9
CrossFire turned off = 30 fps
CrossFire turned on = 39.795 fps
DX10 is totally useless on my system - anything off in the distance is constantly flickering on/off.
I didn't bother to test using 64 bit mode since PB doesn't support it & my server only supports DX9.
I'm hoping that game patches & driver maturity will help these numbers.
Sure isn't much of a difference for me considering an additional $250.00 video card.
As always, your mileage may vary.

Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
yup CrossFire doesn't work in DirectX 10 on Crysis, but it is rumored to be fixed once the new Crysis patch comes out.. That of course has been delayed - http://forums.legitreviews.com/about13252.html

Hey Apop ....
Don't I remember you having lock up problems running the Crysis benchmark tool in 64 bit?
Thought I'd let you know that I tried it 3 times and it locked up every time at the beginning of the 3rd loop.
Something is broken in there somewhere with the x64.
I had a Windows reliability rating of 10 until I started messing with all this video crap.
Then it was all down hill rather quickly.

Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
Update =
Ran the same benchmark tool again using the same settings after installing the new 1.1 patch for Crysis.
Vista Ultimate x64
DX9 32 bit mode w/o CrossFire = 30.25 FPS
DX9 32 bit mode w/ Crossfire = 35.18 FPS
Comparing these numbers to the previous tests .... I went no further.
Considering the fact that I'd have to patch 5 game installs and 1 server, I'm removing the patch and going back to original conifg.
It ain't worth all the effort in my case.
Hope you get better results than I did.

Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
I'm not going to mess with Crysis till the right drivers come out... NVIDIA is working double time on getting them out I hear. As soon as the drivers come out you'll see an article on them.
Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
seems crysis has created more headaches than anything else.

You got that right.vicaphit wrote:seems crysis has created more headaches than anything else.
I've wound up totally uninstalling it from Vista.
Got to the point of crashing over and over.
Still have it installed on XP but have pretty much lost interest in playing it.
Even shut down the server I had built for it.
Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
well from what I've heard it's not really that great of a game, so really, the only point in playing it is to look at the pretty textures and amazing lighting effects while your computer struggles to play it @ 40 fps if even.DL126 wrote:I've wound up totally uninstalling it from Vista.

Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
Pretty much. I went through the game and the scenery was, without a doubt, amazing. Other than that it's just another FPS.w00fd06 wrote:well from what I've heard it's not really that great of a game, so really, the only point in playing it is to look at the pretty textures and amazing lighting effects while your computer struggles to play it @ 40 fps if even.
Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
I have found it fun to go through the game multiple times and use a different strategy each time. The first time was running and gunning, then I tried some stealth, and strength, different directions in the map... I have found it pretty replayable!

Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
The ATI drivers have really sucked it up lately. I had a Radeon 3870 running pretty crappy. That is until it crapped out on me, literally. =(Apoptosis wrote:yup CrossFire doesn't work in DirectX 10 on Crysis, but it is rumored to be fixed once the new Crysis patch comes out.. Re: Crossfire ATI 3870 & Crysis
huh those results dont look that promising but at the same time its nice to know that they are working on another patch for this game, I havent picked up crysis yet as well there isnt a point until I get a better graphics card to play it how it should be played.
