Intel SkullTrail Preview - Dual Core 2 Extreme QX9775 Processors

AMD's QuadFX platform might be dead, but that hasn't stopped Intel from bringing the Skulltrail platform to market. Skulltrail consists of the Intel D5400XS motherboard that supports a pair of LGA771 based Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processors. These 3.2GHz, 45nm, quad-core processors have 1600MHz bus speeds and when paired together make a platform with eight cores and offer a total of 25.6GB/s of bandwidth. This is one serious system!

hmm 8 cores, 2 cores score 1000ppd (low estimate) 4000PPD per rig, possible to 6-8k with ocing and tweaking :prayer:

I foresee lots of problems early on, but nothing that decent driver support won't take care of. Besides that i wish i could afford to feed that puppy

I forgot to upload the overclocking page... just added that, so if you already checked out the article be sure to look at page 14 for overclocking results - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/661/14/

1.) It should support CrossFireX.
2.) I don't think he will but I might give it a shot. :)

If I can get it set up right it should be 7-10k ppd. :)

It's superb when you have a very very deep pocket to buy those pricey hardwares. It's only good for crashing benchmark records but will not be a buying option for the masses.

Do you have to give this one back nate? :axe:

SLI at 100% improvement was a nice sight (though won't be that high with every game).

Honestly it looks like a bunch of hype to me. Even if I could afford it, would I really want it? Just how much will performance improve in everyday tasks with this compared to, say an X38 board with DDR2 and an E8500 for example? If I had to guess, I'd say not enough.

I would love to have this as a workstation, a home machine not so much.

If "money wasn't of ANY concern..." I'd want one of these. Now I'm not sure what I'd do with it, except maybe some "folding". :) But then again, maybe for that I'd be better off with 10 PS3s. :P

About 1000$ per CPU + probably around 400-500$ for the board. So well over 2000$ + video cards + HHD + etc... We're looking at atleast a 3000$ monster
