keyboard cleaning

I have heard outrageous stories about cleaning a keyboard. Is there an easy way or is my thought right that you basically need to take keys off a few at a time to clean under and around them then move on to the rest??

ugh.. taking the keys out? pita imho. can't you do something more convenient.. such as pour a bottle of rubbing alcohol on it or something?

i clean it that way(pop off the keys) it may be a pita, but you get it looking good as new and its not like you do it once a week

Yep, pop off the keys and go to work. At least thats how I do it.

My husband has poped off my keyboard keys and then he mixed up between the (page up , Page down ) keys but it's ok ..

I would say if it's an ancient keyboard try the dishwasher, if it is a new one do the tedious cleaning and from then on make sure your hands are clean first and don't eat over it! I owned a laptop for four years that I always used with clean hands, never needed cleaning once!!

Yeah, unless you paid an ungodly amount of money for your keyboard, I'd just pitch it and buy a new one.
I usually buy fairily cheap ones, but not those piece of crap $15 ones from Big Lots.
I recently bought the Saitek Eclipse for $45 and I"ve been pretty happy with it. I just can't justify spending $70 - $100 for a keyboard.

As far as laptops go, you can usually buy a full replacement keyboard for you laptop for about $50 if you're not afraid to open it up and change it out yourself.

Ok, popping off the keys could work. I honestly like to take a Q-Tip and just swipe that in between the keys (can't get deep down but will get rid of a lot of dust).

IF you could drink a 12 pack while working it wouldn't be too bad but......ooops spilled Bud light in my keyboard might not be the best thing to clean it with.

I know of a few people who have washed their keyboards in the dishwasher....turned out ok actually and they still worked.

Only do it if it's a cheap plain keyboard....nothing special...

Also don't plug it in right away...make sure it completely dries first

Oh and DON'T USE HEAT DRY.

Do I recommend using this way??? No...but to each his own. I've never done it nor will I....my keyboard cost 70 bucks..

There was one instance where I basically took a keyboard completely apart. Soaked the plastic parts. Cleaned them off with a towel and let them dry overnight. And put it all back together again successfully. Of course I was a stark raving lunatic long before I ever considered doing this... Oh and I had another computer to use, while that system was down.

Now I don't let a keyboard get that grungy!

If I notice that my keyboard needs cleaning, I just toss it into the closet as a backup and pay ~$6 for a new one.

Pop the the keys off and use an old tooth brush, work for me whenever I need to clean my keyboard.

how many you have in the closet?? maybe time to break out the ole toothbrush and a 12 pack....oh yea we said that might be a bad idea....now this is mostly spam on my part sorry guys.
