BX2 and 4x1GB Memory

Post by Johnny_B500 »

Is anyone having any issues running 4 x 1GB? I seem to get BSOD's when I run a total of 4GB both in XP and Vista. When using 2 x 1GB I never get a single crash. I am currently running memory tests on both pairs to check for any stability issues but as they have passed everything so far I am thinking it's more to do with the 4GB total.

Any input would be helpful. :?

I'm running Crucial Ballistix, 5-5-5-12 at 2.2V. My system at the moment is not overclocked as I am trying to troubleshoot this memory BSOD issue.

So, the ram needs 2.2v to run? And the BIOS is set to 2.2v? Are you absolutely certain? And no errors when running memtest? Sorry, I have to ask.

I'm running 4x 1GB Kingston ECC 800Mhz at normal 1.8V (KVR800D2E5K2). No problems.

Problem resolved. After more testing it seems my one set of memory was in fact defective so has been RMA'd to Crucial.

Thanks for the help!

As a side note make sure you have the command rate set to 2T when all four DIMM slots are filled.

there's no such option in the xbx2 bios setup.

Just put together a new system 975XBX2 reusing my RAID1 drives from a socket 478. What a scare getting the drives up. The only way I got them to work was to reinstall WinXP with the new RAID drivers and the system is still buggy. I cannot update to SP2 because the install craps out. I will have to back up the data and do a fresh install.
Regarding memory issues here, I saw the same problem I am experiencing. I have OCZ PC6400 1GB memory 555 4 sticks and cannot get them to work all four. Only three work and report as single in the bios. When I install all four the system hangs at a black screen. Does anyone know any bios settings that might be causing this.

Sure, it's the "Intel doesn't suck" option. Currently grayed out but hopefully this feature will be enabled in a new bios release.
