Bluetooth headsets

Post by KnightRid »

Was wondering if anyone had some opinions on these things. I have never owned one before and am getting lost in all the reviews where 1 person says it is a god send and the next person says it is so crappy you cant even throw it away wothout feeling like you are killing mother earth.

I saw the reviews on the main page, but they are all $80 and up I believe. Can I get something cheaper and have it work good? Do I have to spend $100 to get something of good quality that has nice noise blocking and volume in the earpiece?

I saw the Jabra BT160 - think that was it - for around $30 for 3 of them - think it was buy.com. Some people say they are the second coming, others are convinced they are the anti-christ..lol

Figured I would ask here and see what people have had good luck with.

Wife and I just did the new every 2 thing from verizon, so we now have Krzr K1M's - so EASY to get ringtones onto it from the computer ;)

Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

Mike

I would go with the Jawbone. My only real complaint with it is that they don't support it hooking up to the computer.

I really want to use that for my computer mic too, but those bastards won't. [-X

Seriously, the sound on the Jawbone beats every other BT headset I have seen and tried.

Only concern I have with the Jawbone ( other than the price ) is this...
4. I have a Bluetooth enabled phone, but it is not a Cingular phone. Can I still use Jawbone?

The Bluetooth technology in Jawbone is designed to work seamlessly with any Bluetooth compliant handset. However, not all Bluetooth is created equal - certain CDMA phones (like Sprint or Verizon) can under perform compared to GSM phones (like Cingular or T-Mobile). While Jawbone works well with most CDMA phones, a few may have issues with call quality and/or audio switching between the handset and the Jawbone, such as the HP iPaq and LG VX 8300.

I of course have Verizon :) best service we have found! Plus we can call the whole family for free basically ;)

Also in the demo his voice sounded tinty after turning the noice cancellation feature on - it worked AWESOME, but it does seem to change the voice.

Mike

Any other opinions/suggestions? Let em fly! I am still curious how the cheap sets work compared with these high end ones. I know the noice cancellation feature is only good on the high end ones, but is that it?

Like I said, sound-wise I have never had a complaint and others tell me it is better than theirs and better than other ones they have heard.

I have AT&T, so I can't comment about the CDMA issue. :)

Best of luck.

In general, BT headsets that cost over $50-$60 have some form of active noise cancellation and/or voice isolation. If you don't care about these particular features, then concentrate on headsets under the $50 mark. Obviously, there are tons of headsets on the market with more than "basic" features out there that come at a cost. It really depends on what your needs are.

If low cost is your primary issue, then there are a bunch of headsets from Motorola, Plantronics, LG, Jabra, Nokia, and Samsung, to name a few, that you can pick up rather easily. Generally, I tell people that you get what you pay for with BT headsets, and if it is just your intention to be hands free for cheep, just grab a corded one.

It isnt really that low cost is my only alternative, I am just trying to figure out why I look at reviews for $15 wireless bt headsets and then at the jawbone, and they both have some that love it and some that think it is junk.

I dont have the money to waste buying a $100 headset only to find out that it is junk or doesnt work with Verizon ;) That is my biggest concern! Local prices are WAY inflated compared to the net, but i might end up having to pay it just to test some out :(

Maybe I rely on reviews too much, but its the only way I can try and get an idea of how it will work for me.

Mike

Has anyone used one of these Jawbones on Verizon Wireless? Any of the others that are reviewed on the main page?
