3.0ghz Phenom and triple crossfire spotted over at Hard[OCP]

Hardware makers are flying past the software. When the so called toughest games to run for your hardware can be run maxed out settings on a 8800 GTX and sometimes GTS what do you need SLi for? I know 100FPS ro more is impressive, but who really needs it? most games you won't notice a difference between those few more frames you squeeze out, compared to the $1000-2000 you eek out to get those few more frames.

I would agree with that only if you plan on not playing the games at a high definition level. The beefy rigs are nice for high quality rendering at real high resolutions. It's like getting a big screen with a blue-ray disc player to watch your favorite movie.

I can understand your reasoning top, if you are gaming at high-res you will get an added boast. but I game at 1250x1024 and the added frames are purely frivolous.

Yeah I understand that. You could also say it boils down to the size of your monitor. The bigger the monitor, the more needed beefy hardware
