Lookie at what I got!!!
BTW - I ordered the Opt 148 this morning from Monarch. No one except tank guys was willing to guarantee the stepping model and TG's had none of the 146's or 148's, didn't know when they would get more in and already had a waiting list so I bit the bullet and ordered (keeping my fingers crossed). If it ends up being one of the "bad" ones, I'll use it in my old PC. I'm going to go dual core mid-next year anyway so no biggie. I had been eyeing the 3700+ SD for a while anyway because it OC's better than the winny and has the 1MB cache and the opty is roughly the same price. Funny, I ordered the Retail version (with the heatsink) hoping that most people order the OEM and it will be one of the first revision
We'll see how that goes. Maybe crappy logic. Anyone need at stock HSF???

I should have my Expert board here tomorrow. I will be posting my results with my Opty on it, as well a a full review to follow. I have seen results of many others using this board, and they are saying 2 different things: 1. I can get more overclock with this board, 2. THis board has limited my overclock. Hopefully I will be one of the 1st group. One thing I cna say, this opty running at 3+ghz is just screaming!

How does it compare to your X2 3800 at 2.8Ghz? Subjectively speaking, do you like the 3Ghz single core Opty or the 2.8Ghz dual core Manchester?pastorjay wrote:One thing I cna say, this opty running at 3+ghz is just screaming!
Are you gonna be using both your Opteron as well as your X2 or are you gonna sell that 3800?

As of now, I will keep them both and probably sell my Winnie that does 2.7
I like them both for different reasons...
The X2 is nice for everyday use for me
The Opty is great for benching and gaming
So, I guess it depends on what I fell like doing for the day as to which CPU I put in for the day...

HAHAHAHA, that's great!pastorjay wrote:So, I guess it depends on what I fell like doing for the day as to which CPU I put in for the day...
Can you actually notice a difference in multitasking/general useage between the single and dual core?
I'm just trying to get a feel for whether or not it is worth the upgrade to dual core yet...
I could notice a little difference in my day to stay stuff. THings were much smoother and there ws no lag time opening anything. I would say for most, you will not notice a huge diifference if you are just surfing, emailing and stuff. THe reall benefit comes in doing things while you are running CPU intensive stuff like encoding, and then trying to use your computer for other things as well.
I was actually able to run 2 instances of Prime and continue to use my computer for everything else I wanted to do as well without any lag. That was pretty impressive to me.
