Best HSF

Im looking for a new HSF for my e6300, i can spend about 85USD max on it, i dont really care about size i just need the best possible cooling(unless it doesnt fit!

I have the Zalman 9500 and it really works well so I'm sure you'd be happy with 9700.

The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is pretty much the best, ncix has a few in stock for $70, and you'd need a separate fan. I've found the Scythe s-flex with a 1600 rpm max speed gives an excellent balance of balance of cooling and noise, if you're looking for something with more power, there are lots of other options available.

I got the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO from recommendations on this board, and i love it! E6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz and the max temps seen so far have been around 42C!!!

and you could buy 4 of them for your price ;)

I also heard the Scythe are good, but for the price, and depending if you are going to go crazy with overclocking, this puppy will do just fine! My E6300 I overclocked to 3.2ghz also, and ran this cooler with no problems

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
Scythe S-Flex
Silverstone

I use the Scythe with my SI-128 heatsink, if noise really isn't an issue, you can match the Ultra-120 extreme with something like the silverstone fan linked there, load temps will be in the 30's, depending on room temperature. Check some reviews on the Ultra-120 extreme, they're nice.

I also recommend the Ultra-120 extreme, just make sure you get the extreme version, the regular is a great cooler but the extreme has two extra heat pipes and beats everything else out there.

Hexus just did a big review (25 coolers) of 775 HSF and the Thermaltake Big Typ VX came out on top. Granted they only reviewed the Thermalright Ultra and not the extreme, but the TT did a gret job and the prise isn't bad either.................

You'll need to find a review that has the 2 coolers compaired, but I really wouldn't thing that there would be a 8c differance in performance between the Ultra and the Extreme............

I suppose it's possible, but I really don't think there is.

Thermaltake would be my pick, but back in the day of me reviewing these things, the TT Big Typhoon smoked everything else out there at the time on my old X2 test bed............

I'd be willing to bet they used a weak fan on the Thermalright, with an equally powerful fan, no aircooling beas the Ultra-120 extreme, from what I've been able to dig up.

That's understandable, but the Thermaltake Big Typ VX is much better than the TT Big Typhoon.......;) At best, I'd be willing to bet the TR Extreme and the Thermaltake Big Typ VX are about neck and neck. In that case, I'd opt of the cheaper soultion..........

The Thermaltake Big Typ VX also has another advantage, it cools all the components around the CPU socket where the Extreme doesn't.............

The only difference between the Big Typhoon and the Big Typhoon VX is the fan, while the fan in the Thermalright is user selectable. The last link I posted didn't use the VX fan on the TTBT, but the same fan as the Ultra-120 extreme for the equivalent tests.

Going with the TTBTVX and the stock fan is obviously cheaper than the Thermalright though.

I'm not too sure how cooling the rest of the mobo comes into play. I originally purchased my current SI-128 for that purpose, but after playing briefly with an Ultra-120 (non-ultra), couldn't see any real difference in temps other than the cpu temp. For what it's worth, I'm back to my SI-128.

All the rest of the components surrounding the CPU socket need to be cooled as well and coolers that blow air down around the area help cool the ram, NB and all those nice little hot running components................
