R480 to arrive in December?!?

Post by Apoptosis »

This is what we have figured out from the rumor mill on the ATI R480...

0.11µ architecture
520MHz-550Mhz Core Speed
700 MHz/1400MHz Memory chips (maybe)
PCI Express only
will replace X800XT and X800XT PE
Will be launched Q4 2004

Looks like it is going to be a solid card. Anyone want to guess at the price or the name? I'm guessing it will be called the X850 or X900

Naming sounds about right................. 8) For price I'll bet on the $500 range............ The 800XT cards will drop in price

do we know if it will actually be native PCI Express and actually use the bandwidth available? or will it be another implementation of an on-board bridge chip to an AGP core?

Any bets either way on that?

I'll guess X850 if it is just another bridgechip, and X900 if it is native PCI-E.

I'm curious period what they're going to do about their naming scheme when they hit the X900 series.

I'm guessing a good $500 also. New video cards have been damn expensive, so it's just safe to assume that for this one.

i beleive ATI are working on a bridge chip and all of their cards will be native PCI-E from now on. As it is easier to have 1 chip design and a cheap chip to convert the signals....
