Odd Keyboard Problem

Post by Llobid »

I have found a very odd situation. The user has a desktop computer (Dell Dimension 8400) with Windows XP. There are 5 user profiles set up on the system. Only one of the users has the following problem:

She cannot rapidly repeattttttttt a letter. She must wait a couple of seconds before re-typing the letter. I have gone into the Keyboard Control Panel and checked the repeat rate and all is normal (as it is for the other 4 users). I even set hers to the fastest speed on everything ... to no avail. Logically, the problem cannot be hardware related, since all of the other 4 users don't have the problem. The problem occurs when typing in Word or when typing a URL in Internet Explorer; it doesn't matter where she is.

I have also encountered another problem on the same computer which seems to be totally unrelated, but at this point I am not going to discount anything. The same user that has the keyboard repeat problem, DOESN'T have another problem that several of the others do. When logging into their accounts, the following IE error message appears on the desktop:

"An error has occurred in the script on this page."

Understand that we haven't even opened Internet Explorer at this time ... just clicked to log into the account. I have gone into IE Toos ... Options and checked the settings for displaying script errors and all is as it should be.

Any help on these matters would be appreciated. This is a new one for me.

PS: All the users are set up as "Administrators" and I have run a virus scan on the computer without successful results.

only thing I can think of on the keyboard repeat is Sticky Keys. it might not be the case, but it sticks in my head because a client called me today with the same thing going on.

Thanks, I'll check to see if she has that feature turned on.
