XBX2 BIOS 2785..any problems

Post by hkancyr »

I just tried to install the new BIOS without success. I tried the ISO and the EXE methods and both reported errors in the programming. I've installed quite a few BIOS's in this thing and never had a problem. I have always used the ISO method. Is this Intel's problem? Is there gonna be another try at this release or should we look for 2786 soon?

Verified that your downloaded BIOS wasn't corrupt?

Yeah I DL'd both twice. Burned with Nero and Alcohol. But I will try one more time.

Still no go.
I just noticed that they released new chipset software today too. That installed beautifully. It didn't have any effect on the BIOS update however.

Heres what the new chipset inf does for ya:

"suppresses the unsigned driver warning that appeared in 1014 build for Bearlake chipsets."

In short, you no longer have to click the ignore button if you previously had that issue.

The recent driver/BIOS releases seem to be geared more for their (Intel's) benefit than anything else.

Nice to know. I didn't actually have that problem.
BTW, did you get the new BIOS updated without problem?

I finally flashed mine too. After hearing that there wasn't a problem with the software I disconnected my CD burner and it installed as normal from the CD in the player. Weirdness just never ends with this setup. It wouldn't be as much fun with less of a challenge I guess.

Try the bootable floppy Iflash method, that is the "old fashioned way". The ISO and the EXE in windows uses the SMBUS to do the programming, the iflash way is different.

I did get mine up with the windows .exe

Also, the recovery jumper method does actually work, just put the BIO file on a floppy and change that jumper - but it does take a long time to work.

Thanks mick, but I did it the other day. I was gonna do the floppy method like the olden days, but my floppy drive decided to give me grief too, probably due to a lack of use. As I said I was able to install using my new favorite method of burning a CD and using that, once I uplugged the power on the burner so that only one CD drive was seen by the installer.

P.S. Go Ron Paul. I actually sent him $50 and I'm a Dem leaning indy.
