Looking to upgrade video card!!!!

Post by Homer23 »

Hey everybody,

I'm running a Pentium D 3.0GHZ, 3.5GB of RAM, Windows XP (may change to Vista Ultimate soon), and i currently have a GeForce 7300LE and I want to get a new video card.

I'm looking for a decent card for gaming so I was thinking about an Nvidia 8600 GT or if there is anything better than that, cause i'm on a budget and i don't wanna pay too much for a card, but my PSU runs at 375 W.

So what would be the best card for my system, and I'd like to know should I go with an Nvidia or ATI???? And i don't wanna change my PSU so that's why looking for a good card that would give me great performance with the system I currently have.

Help Me!!! hahaha

Thanx

If you can wait till next month the GeForce 8800 GT will be released if the rumors prove true... That will drop the price on the GeForce 8600 series and you'll have another card close to your price range that has improved performance.

Check out Quake 4 performance... The 8800 GT actually beats out the 8800 GTS... More benchmarks here.

Thanx great info but if I go with an 8800 series, i'd probably have to buy a bigger PSU, so would that 8600 GT one be compatible with my system since i only have a 375 W PSU??? and for 160$ isn't it a good price for that type of card??

Yep you would need a bigger PSU for the 8800.

The 8600 is compatible, and the 375w PSU would most likely be sufficient.

No, $160 is NOT a good price. You can find xfx 8600gt $99 after MIR. $100-$119 range.
