Motherboard problem?

Post by stinsonk »

I've had my new computer for nearly a year now and have come across a small glitch it would appear with the system. Every now and then, I will start up and, after taking a good 30 seconds to POST, the computer will have reset back to stock frequencies and the BIOS startup screen will display the following message and pause: Warning! Now system is in safe mode. Please reset CPU or memory frequencies in the CMOS setup. I then have to option to dismiss the message and startup with stock speeds or enter setup and reset everything. Heres the twist, if I reset from this screen it goes back to normal. This has been happening off and on for a few months now, and it is starting to get annoying. Any Idea of what it could be (I think it is related to mobo or BIOS).

My specs:
-ECS 680i Mobo
-E6400 C2D OCed at 2.6GHZ
-2GB OCZ platinum pc2-6400 ddr2-800 OCed to 4-4-4-12 timings from 5-5-5-15
-BFG 8800GTX
-Creative sound blaster X-FI xtreme gamer
-OCZ extremegamer 600w PSU

Thanks,
Kevin

strange... my main system is a 680i SLI board and i haven't had that issue.

Are you using P31 BIOS? It came out around 10/2/2007. I'm personally using an older one, but everything is fine on my rig and since it's my daily driver so I'm not changing it.

You should at least be using P30 (download link), which has fixes for the X-Fi sound card you are using...

P30 had a bunch of updates and fixes in it:
-Improved overclocking for Kentsfield 1333 FSB CPUs
-Improve S3 resume functionality
-USB flash key functionality improvements
-Overclocking and memory improvements
-WHQL-related HPET fixes
-Quad-core overclocking improvements
-Vreg fan header default set to on
-Memory performance improvements
-Fix for SATA disk drives
-Improvements to memory stability and overclockability
-Disabled spread spectrum tables for improved overclockability
-Improve POST screen CPU speed reporting
-Improve X-Fi and internal audio functionality
